The<br \/>\nPresbyterian Church in collaboration with Act Alliance, a coalition of<br \/>\nprotestant churches engaged in humanitarian Aid and headquartered in<br \/>\nSwitzerland, have distributed relief items to one thousand victims of recent<br \/>\nfloods in five districts of the Upper East Region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The distribution, which is being undertaken<br \/>\nwith the support of the Upper East Regional Red Cross Society and NADMO was<br \/>\ncarried out in the Bolgatanga East, Builsa South, Bawku Central, Pusiga and the<br \/>\nNabdam districts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The items included 10 kg bags of rice, 50<br \/>\nboxes of 1 litre frytol oil, maxi bags of beans, 1,000 boxes of Key Soap, 1000<br \/>\nblankets and mosquito nets; and mattresses and basins at a cost GHC 331,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Reverend James Awuni, the District Pastor of<br \/>\nthe Presbyterian Church, who spoke in an interview with the Ghana News Agency<br \/>\nat Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga East District, said the Presbyterian Church and<br \/>\nAct Alliance, believes in a holistic Ministry and this does not only refer to<br \/>\nthe souls of people but their total individual wellbeing. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He said the experience of pregnant women and<br \/>\nlactating mothers who go through suffering after losing their beddings to the<br \/>\nrains amongst others was the reason why an assessment was conducted to select<br \/>\nvulnerable groups to provide them with needed items.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Reverend Awuni said the needs of flood<br \/>\nvictims are enormous and they need support to live comfortable lives after<br \/>\ntheir trauma.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr Maxwell Akandem, the Upper East Regional<br \/>\nDirector of Development and Social Services of the Presbyterian Church, prior to<br \/>\nthe distribution of the items in each of the beneficiary locations, urged the<br \/>\nvictims to think positive and not let the experience depress them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Reverend Professor Emmanuel Abole Abugre,<br \/>\nthe District Chief Executive, thanked the organization saying the assembly<br \/>\nwould collaborate with benevolent organizations for more support to help the<br \/>\npeople.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr Emmanuel Nyarko Ankomah, the Act Alliance<br \/>\nGhana Forum Coordinator of Relief Services, said there is the need to help<br \/>\ncommunities who continuously experience annual disasters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He said the Act Alliance would empower<br \/>\npeople especially women with skills to enable them earn an income and improve<br \/>\ntheir lot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Act Alliance operates in communities and<br \/>\nsupports them to address systemic poverty, support in survivors of disasters,<br \/>\nwars and conflicts, train rural communities in sustainable agriculture<br \/>\ntechniques and helps communities to adapt to climate change issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;mso-fareast-font-family:&#10;Calibri;mso-ansi-language:EN-GB;mso-fareast-language:EN-US;mso-bidi-language:&#10;AR-SA\">GNA<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Fatima Anafu-Astanga, GNA Zuarungu (U\/E), Jan. 9, GNA &#8211;
