young girls in the Central<br \/>\nRegion are expected to benefit from the Strategic Approaches to Girls\u2019<br \/>\nEducation (STAGE) project being implemented by the Ghana Red Cross Society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">STAGE is a four -year project aimed at<br \/>\ncombining two mutually supportive tracks for highly marginalized girls to bring<br \/>\na holistic approach to the education of girls and lower the barriers they face<br \/>\nin all sectors of the society. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Proposed by World Education Inc, the STAGE<br \/>\nproject, under the \u201cLeave No Girl Behind (LNGB)\u201d window is being funded by the<br \/>\nUKaid\u2019s Girls\u2019 Education Challenge (GEC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">It specifically targets areas where high<br \/>\nlevels of extreme poverty, in combination with deep-seated traditional and<br \/>\nsocial norms exist, resulting in negative impacts on women and the education of<br \/>\ngirls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">With each cohort of beneficiaries, the<br \/>\nproject would begin with a focus on literacy, numeracy, and life skills through<br \/>\naccelerated learning programs to get girls on track for transition into either<br \/>\na formal education, a vocational learning opportunity, or some form of<br \/>\nemployment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Speaking at the launch of the project in the<br \/>\nCentral Region on Tuesday, Mr John Ekow Aidoo, Regional Manager of the Ghana<br \/>\nRed Cross Society, said the project would establish relevant and appropriate<br \/>\npartnerships and pathways for the successful transition of the beneficiary<br \/>\ngirls into responsible and self-reliant individuals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He said beneficiary districts include<br \/>\nKomenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA), Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira, Gomoa West and<br \/>\nEkumfi Districts adding that 500 girls would be selected from each district. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He said STAGE targets girls in areas that<br \/>\nare highly vulnerable and systematically marginalized due to factors such as<br \/>\nearly marriage, pregnancies and disabilities amongst others others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He said facilitators and master Craftsmen<br \/>\nwould be trained in gender-sensitive inclusive strategies and provided with<br \/>\ncurricula and supporting materials to meet the diverse needs of the girls. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The project will collaborate closely with<br \/>\npartners such as Non-Formal Education Division (NFED), Girls Education Unit and<br \/>\nSpecial Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to develop basic<br \/>\ntraining modules and teaching and learning materials to facilitate the adequate<br \/>\nprovision of support to marginalized subgroups of girls, such as those with<br \/>\ndisabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The project would also simultaneously work<br \/>\nto sensitize communities and advocate at the national policy level to challenge<br \/>\ncontextual barriers affecting the education of girls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">In this regard, he said, peer education<br \/>\nmodels involving adolescent girls with boys as allies would be established to<br \/>\nwork with youth and adult male-led community sensitization campaigns to promote<br \/>\npositive behavior change and engage both the public and private sectors to<br \/>\nprovide opportunities beyond the learning programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr Aidoo said enough measures have been put<br \/>\nin place to ensure the successful implementation of the project and urged the<br \/>\nbeneficiary communities to own the project and offer the necessary support to<br \/>\nthe girls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mrs Dora Ewusi, Safeguarding Officer of the<br \/>\nGhana Red Cross Society, urged the beneficiary communities to help create a<br \/>\nconducive environment to enable the girls complete their courses with ease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span
