Mr Nicholas<br \/>\nIssaka Gbana, the Programme Manager of Oil Palm, Solidaridad West Africa, said<br \/>\nGhana needs financing policy for the oil palm industry to reap its full<br \/>\npotentials to bolster economic growth and transformation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Ghana is seen as a country with all it takes<br \/>\nto grow the oil palm plantation sector and the ability to reduce vegetable oil<br \/>\nimportation, which could reposition it to become a leading exporter of oil palm<br \/>\nlike Malaysia and Indonesia. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He, therefore, commended Government\u2019s policy<br \/>\ninitiatives such as the Planting for Export and Rural Development, which covers<br \/>\ncash crops like oil palm, saying: \u201cIt is a step in the right direction.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr Gbana was speaking at the opening of a<br \/>\nfive-day training workshop for facilitators in technical up-skilling for<br \/>\nAgricultural Technical and Vocational Education Training (ATVET) in oil palm<br \/>\nvalue chain at Fumesua in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Participants came from the University<br \/>\nCollege of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Bunso in the Eastern Region,<br \/>\nAsuansi Technical Institute, Kumasi Institute for Tropical Agriculture, the<br \/>\nFather Dogli Memorial Vocational Institute and Kpando Technical Institute.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Tutors from these institutions would be<br \/>\ntaken through concepts on oil palm agronomy, agribusiness and sustainability<br \/>\nand practical farmer field school sessions at the Juaben Oil Palm Plantation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The training formed part of activities under<br \/>\nphase two of the Sustainable West Africa Oil Palm Programme to support<br \/>\ninstitutions that would provide technical training to industry players.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Solidaridad, in partnership with the Ghana<br \/>\nSkills Development Initiative (GSDI), with funding from the Swiss State<br \/>\nSecretariat for Economic Affairs, would hold the training for five institutions<br \/>\naccredited by COTVET to run the ATVET programme in oil palm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr Gbana said the two-year programme,<br \/>\nspanning 2019 to 2021, is being implemented in Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and<br \/>\nCote d\u2019Ivoire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">About 19,000 beneficiaries in Ghana<br \/>\nincluding 16,000 farmers, 2,000 women processors and 1,000 youth are expected<br \/>\nto be reached by the end of the programme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">GNA<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Florence Afriyie Mensah, GNA\u00a0 \u00a0 Fumesua (Ash), Jan. 9, GNA &#8211;
