organisation,<br \/>\nhas enrolled about 250 deprived and out-of-school girls in the Nabdam District<br \/>\nof the Upper East Region onto informal education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The initiative,<br \/>\nwhich seeks to empower the girls aged 15 to 19 years, is part of a four-year<br \/>\nproject dubbed; \u201cStrategic Approaches to Girl-Child Education (STAGE)\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">It has funding<br \/>\nsupport from the Department for International Development (DFID), a United<br \/>\nKingdom development agency, through the World Education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The underprivileged<br \/>\ngirls would go through six to seven months tuition in literacy and numeracy as<br \/>\nwell as vocational training to empower them economically to live dignified<br \/>\nlives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">In an interview with<br \/>\nthe Ghana News Agency at Zanlerigu, one of the training communities, Mr Joachim<br \/>\nFaara, the Project Coordinator for Link Community Development, said the informal<br \/>\naspect of STAGE was being implemented in only 10 communities in the Nabdam<br \/>\nDistrict. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He said 25<br \/>\nvulnerable girls in each community were benefitting from the seven months<br \/>\nvocational training that would include bakery, dressmaking, weaving, tie-and-dye<br \/>\ndesigning and hairdressing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The girls would be<br \/>\nsupported to start their own businesses after training while those wishing to<br \/>\nfurther their education in formal vocational schools would also be supported,<br \/>\nhe said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr Faara said the<br \/>\ninitiative sought to offer some form of competencies and income generating<br \/>\nskills to enable the girls fend for themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The formal aspect of<br \/>\nthe STAGE project is being implemented at Bongo, Nabdam, Kassena-Nankana West<br \/>\nand Bawku West districts for over 2,000 out-of-school girls, aged between 10 to<br \/>\n14 years, who would be mainstreamed into the formal education sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr Maxwell Divom,<br \/>\nthe Assemblyman-elect of the Zanlerigu-Daaliga Electoral Area, applauded the<br \/>\ninitiative to empower the girls and said it would go a long way to relieve them<br \/>\nof extreme economic hardships.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He said most of them<br \/>\ngot married at the expense of their education due to poverty and other related<br \/>\nfactors and expressed the hope that the beneficiaries would take the training<br \/>\nseriously and reap maximum benefits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The girls expressed<br \/>\ngratitude to the charitable organisation and said the training would afford<br \/>\nthem the opportunity to be provided with basic numeracy and literacy education<br \/>\nas well as
