Lakpo (VR), Jan. 09, GNA \u2013 The Integrated
\nRice Farmers Association (IRFA) in Lakpo in the South Tongu District of Volta
\nRegion say more young people are venturing into local rice farming following
\n“booming sales” recorded during the yuletide season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Various rice farmers associations in the
\nDistrict have started registering youths to undergo guidance and training for
\nthe next rice farming season, which would kick-start in April 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Bright Prince Amexoxo, the Chairman of
\nIRFA who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency, said the Association has,
\nalready, registered five young persons with 20 more undergoing training to get
\nregistered into IRFA.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said sales increased tremendously during
\nthe festive season during which all the 38 members of IRFA sold virtually all
\nrice harvested, but could not still meet market demand, adding: \u201cSo we are
\nhappy our young ones are showing interest now\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

He stated that members of the Association
\nwere working hard to expand their yields and ensure quality of local rice to
\nmeet market demand, stressing: \u201cwith the interest of the youth in rice farming,
\nit would be difficult for local rice to run out of the market\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Amexoxo appealed to chiefs and land
\nowners to make lands readily available to the youth to go into rice farming and
\nalso asked that the Government continued to make rice farming lucrative for the
\nyouth.<\/span><\/p>\n

The farmers appealed to government to
\nsupport rice growers with harvesting machines and irrigation equipment.<\/span><\/p>\n
