Health\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The 11, young<br \/>\npeople, aged between 18 to 35 years are to be trained under a programme being<br \/>\nimplemented by a United Kingdom-based organisation, Results UK, in partnership<br \/>\nwith the Hope for Future Generations (HFFG), a non-governmental organisation in<br \/>\nGhana, and the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The youth advocates<br \/>\nare billed to travel to Ethiopia on January 26, to be trained in a five-day<br \/>\ntraining programme so they come back to\u00a0<br \/>\ninfluence decision-makers to scale-up malaria financing, in a bid to<br \/>\naccelerate efforts at eradicating malaria in Ghana to a zero point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The latest World<br \/>\nMalaria Report 2019 put Ghana as one of the 10 highest malaria burden countries<br \/>\nin Africa. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Ghana has however,<br \/>\nbeen able to reduce malaria deaths to about 75 per cent while new infections of<br \/>\nmalaria keep increasing due to people\u2019s attitude towards the use of insecticide<br \/>\ntreated nets, and reduction in funding, experts have said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Also, many countries<br \/>\nare said to be now experiencing increases in malaria cases after 15 years of<br \/>\nconsistent declines in malaria cases and deaths, with the last three years<br \/>\nrecording slow progress in cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mrs Cecelia Senoo,<br \/>\nExecutive Director, HFFG, who had earlier sent a delegation of the project<br \/>\nimplementers to pay a courtesy call on the Minister of Health and the Ghana<br \/>\nHealth Service, said the one-year youth advocacy programme was being<br \/>\nimplemented in Tanzania and Sierra Leone as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">She said the<br \/>\nGhanaian advocates were selected from 200 applicants who applied for the<br \/>\ntraining programme would, after the training in Ethiopia, be involved in a<br \/>\nvariety of advocacy activities like potentially developing and launching a<br \/>\nUniversal Health Coverage campaign during the election periods\u00a0 in their countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">They would also be<br \/>\ntalking to world leaders at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in<br \/>\nRwanda.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mrs Senoo said in<br \/>\nall, 25 advocates were to be trained in the three countries to become \u201cvibrant<br \/>\nadvocates for Malaria\u201d, adding that the initiative was an African one aimed at<br \/>\nusing home grown knowledge that could produce results.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Dr Kezia Malm,<br \/>\nProgramme Manager, NMCP, said Malaria still remained the number one cause of<br \/>\noutpatient attendance and costs the nation and individuals\u2019 lots of money and<br \/>\nresources.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">She said Ghana had<br \/>\nover the years rolled out many interventions together with donor partners in<br \/>\ndealing with the disease, but it had become necessary to increase domestic<br \/>\nfunding to fight the diseases due to dwindling donor support.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Dr Malm emphasized<br \/>\nthe need to increase domestic resources in the fight against the disease,<br \/>\nsaying, \u201cIf you look at how we have progress with decreasing malaria deaths, we<br \/>\njust need to push things more and not do things as usual to get to
