Polkuu, GNA<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Navrongo (U\/E), Jan.<br \/>\n8, GNA \u2013 The Upper East Regional branch of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA)<br \/>\nhas partnered the Aide \u00e0 la Vuln\u00e8rabillit\u00e8, a charity-based health organization<br \/>\nto screen inmates of the Navrongo Central prison in the Kassena Nankana<br \/>\nMunicipality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The charity-based<br \/>\norganization, which operates in the Upper East Region, has over the years<br \/>\norganized medical screening services and donated gift items to the less<br \/>\nprivileged in the Region including the Mother of Mercy Babies Home at Sirigu<br \/>\nand the Gbeogo School for the Deaf in the Talensi District.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Dr. Patrick Ansah,<br \/>\nthe Upper East Regional Chairman of the GMA in an interview with the Ghana News<br \/>\nAgency (GNA) after the exercise, said the initiative to partner the<br \/>\norganization was in line with the GMA\u2019s annual national theme which seeks to<br \/>\nhelp prisoners and other vulnerable groups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He said the GMA<br \/>\nmedically consulted the inmates and added that \u201cfortunately, the charity group<br \/>\nput together some monies and were able to procure drugs, and by the grace of<br \/>\nGod we were able to treat everybody and even left some surplus drugs for their<br \/>\ninfirmary.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Dr Ansah said skin<br \/>\ndiseases, general body aches and nutritional deficiencies were common among<br \/>\ntheir findings after the exercise, and said \u201cwe dewormed most of them and gave<br \/>\nantimalarial drugs as well.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The GMA Chairman<br \/>\ncalled for building of modern prisons, reduction of custodian sentences to free<br \/>\nthe prisons of congestion, and urged Non-Governmental Organizations to support<br \/>\nprisoners, because the conditions at the prison were not good.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr Charles Lwanga<br \/>\nMoandiyiem Tabase, the Chairman of the charity-based group told the GNA that<br \/>\nabout 172 inmates were examined for infections in their ears, noses and<br \/>\nthroats, Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) for malaria and Random Blood Sugar (RBS)<br \/>\nwere done.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He said officials of<br \/>\nthe group who were health professional drawn from various health facilities<br \/>\nacross the region, further assessed the body temperatures, pulse rates, weight<br \/>\nand Blood Pressures of the inmates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr Tabase said it<br \/>\nwas a great collaboration with the Regional GMA to have the inmates screened,<br \/>\n\u201cwhat is more important to us is the love we showed.
