{"id":778687,"date":"2020-01-08T17:39:26","date_gmt":"2020-01-08T17:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2020\/01\/08\/coup-plotters-case-docket-forwarded-to-attorney-general-for-advice\/"},"modified":"2020-01-08T17:39:26","modified_gmt":"2020-01-08T17:39:26","slug":"coup-plotters-case-docket-forwarded-to-attorney-general-for-advice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/01\/08\/coup-plotters-case-docket-forwarded-to-attorney-general-for-advice\/","title":{"rendered":"Coup plotters case docket forwarded to Attorney General for advice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"floatLeft\">General News of Wednesday,  8 January 2020<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>Graphic.com.gh <\/p>\n<p>2020-01-08<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-left\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/25230764.295.jpg\" alt=\"Some suspects standing trial for the alleged coup plot\" title=\"Some suspects standing trial for the alleged coup plot\" width=\"295\" height=\"177\" \/><span class=\"image_caption\"><span>Some suspects standing trial for the alleged coup plot<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"clear:right\" id=\"article-123\"> The case docket of the ten people accused of plotting a coup to destabilise the country and \u201cpossibly take over the government,\u201d has been forwarded to the Attorney &#8211; General (A-G) for advice.<\/p>\n<p>The police prosecutor handling the case, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Sylvester Asare, made this known when the case came up at the Kaneshie District Court on Wednesday [January 8. 2020], reports Graphic Online&#8217;s Emmanuel Ebo Hawkson.<\/p>\n<p>With the new development, it means the police have completed their investigations and the trial of the case could begin in earnest, depending on the advice from the A-G.<\/p>\n<p>Ebo Hawkson reported that, when the case was called, ASP Asare, asked the court to adjourn the case as the prosecution was waiting for the A-G\u2019s advice.<\/p>\n<p>The court presided over by Mrs Eleanor Kakra &#8211; Banes Botchway acceded to the prosecution\u2019s request and adjourned the case to January 23, 2020.<\/p>\n<p><b>Suspects<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The 10 suspects, including five soldiers, have been charged with offences including conspiracy to commit treason felony, treason felony, abetment to commit treason, conspiracy to possess explosives, arms and ammunition without lawful excuse and possession of explosives, arms and ammunition without lawful excuse.<\/p>\n<p>They have been accused of plotting to destabilise the country and \u201cpossibly take over the government\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The soldiers are Colonel Samuel Kodzo Gameli, Warrant Officer II Esther Saan Dekuwine, Corporal Seidu Abubakar, Lance Corporal Sylvester Akanpewon and Gershon Akpah, a weapons mechanic at the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).<\/p>\n<p>The other accused persons are Dr Frederick YaoMac-Palm, a medical practitioner; Donyo Kafui, alias Ezor, a blacksmith; Bright Alan Debrah, a fleet manager.<\/p>\n<p><b>Prosecution\u2019s case<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors have accused the 10 of being part of a group known as Take Action Ghana (TAG), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), which is alleged to have planned to embark on demonstrations against the government and \u201cpossibly take over the government\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>General News of Wednesday, 8 January 2020 Source: Graphic.com.gh 2020-01-08 Some suspects standing trial for the alleged coup plot The case docket of the ten people accused of plotting a coup to destabilise the country and \u201cpossibly take over the government,\u201d has been forwarded to the Attorney &#8211; General (A-G) for advice.
