Asuboa, a<br \/>\nfarming community in the Asante-Akim South Municipality, is showing the way on<br \/>\nhow embarking on self-help initiatives can bring enormous benefits and improve<br \/>\nthe living conditions of those in rural communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Determined to eliminate the struggles the<br \/>\npeople had to go through in accessing healthcare outside the community, Asuboa<br \/>\nhas built its own clinic funded through a series of fund raising activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Added to this, a laboratory facility and a<br \/>\nnurses quarters to aid proper diagnosis for a holistic, one stop quality care,<br \/>\nas well as\u00a0 provide accommodation for<br \/>\nhealth staff posted there is under construction and has reached the window<br \/>\nstage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Continuous referrals of patients to Juaso<br \/>\nfor laboratory tests, necessitated the construction of the laboratory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The expectation is that the two projects<br \/>\nwhen completed, would make the facility a preferred choice for most surrounding<br \/>\ncommunities who still travel to Juaso due to lack of a laboratory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Before the construction of the facility two<br \/>\nyears ago, residents including pregnant women had to travel to sister<br \/>\ncommunities like Juaso, Bompata or Nnadieso to access healthcare.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The inconvenience and discomforts those in<br \/>\nneed of medical care had to go through due to the bad road coupled with the<br \/>\nhigh cost involved in travelling to seek medical attention elsewhere, compelled<br \/>\nthe people to establish their own clinic to ensure easy access to<br \/>\nhealthcare.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Led by the Paramount Chief, Nana Kwaku Ofori<br \/>\nII, the community set up the Asuboa Development Committee to spearhead the<br \/>\nconstruction of the clinic in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Within a year, the facility was completed<br \/>\nand is already functional with health workers posted by the Municipal Health<br \/>\nDirectorate currently serving the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Apart from a quantity of cement donated by<br \/>\nthe Municipal Assembly to support the project, the community virtually built<br \/>\nthe clinic on their own.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Consequently, the Asuboa Development<br \/>\nCommittee has organized another fund raising activity towards the completion of<br \/>\nthe nurses&#8217; quarters and the laboratory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Nana Wiredu Takyi, Chairman of the<br \/>\nCommittee, said it was imperative to complete the two projects to enable it<br \/>\nserve its primary purpose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He said the people of Asuboa were committed<br \/>\nto addressing their health needs with high communal spirit towards the<br \/>\nprojects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Nana Takyi called on the citizens from the<br \/>\ncommunity both home and abroad to support the initiative, adding that, it would<br \/>\ninure to the benefit of their own people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Baffour Kwaku Ofori commended the people for<br \/>\nembracing the initiative and participating in the communal labour, as good<br \/>\ncitizens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He charged them to do more to ensure the<br \/>\ncompletion of the two projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr. Alexander Frimpong, the Municipal Chief<br \/>\nExecutive (MCE), applauded the people for the initiative which, he said, was<br \/>\nthe way to go as a people to achieve the development goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He said Asuboa stands tall among the over<br \/>\n100 communities in the Municipalities in terms of initiating self-help and<br \/>\nwished that more communities would emulate them to accelerate development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The MCE announced that he together with the<br \/>\nMember of Parliament (MP), Mr. Kwaku Asante-Boateng would support the project<br \/>\nwith 100 bags of cement, eight packets of roofing sheets and two tons of iron<br \/>\nrods.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">GNA<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Yussif Ibrahim, GNA\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Asuboa (Ash), Jan. 08, GNA &#8211;
