{"id":777827,"date":"2020-01-07T15:16:50","date_gmt":"2020-01-07T15:16:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2020\/01\/07\/takoradi-port-traffic-increases\/"},"modified":"2020-01-07T15:16:50","modified_gmt":"2020-01-07T15:16:50","slug":"takoradi-port-traffic-increases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/01\/07\/takoradi-port-traffic-increases\/","title":{"rendered":"Takoradi Port Traffic Increases &#8211;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Takoradi Port recorded an increase in port traffic from 8.2 million metric tons (mt) in 2018 to 9.9 million mt in 2019, representing an increase of 21 per cent in total port traffic<strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0It also registered an increase of 43 per cent in exports.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The port however, recorded 13 per cent decrease in imports, 21 per<br \/>\ncent decrease in transshipment and 26 per cent in transit. Vessel calls to the<br \/>\nport also decreased by 206 from 1,712 in 2018, to 1,506 in 2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Captain Ebenezer Afadzi, the Director of Takoradi Port, made this<br \/>\nknown at a press soiree organised by the port management in Takoradi, to<br \/>\ninteract, inform and educate stakeholders about the development of the<br \/>\nport.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said despite the increase in commercial vessel calls from 645<br \/>\nin 2018, to 743 in 2019, oil supply vessel calls decreased from 1,067 calls in<br \/>\n2018, to 793 in 2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned that the<br \/>\nsituation was, however, set to change in the year 2020 with a lot of activities<br \/>\nexpected in the oil and gas fields.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Port Expansion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that with<br \/>\nregards to the Takoradi Port expansion programme \u2013 significant milestones had<br \/>\nbeen achieved under the various projects and developments in the port.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that the<br \/>\nconstruction of the 800 metre quay wall had been completed and installed with<br \/>\n48 fenders and 28 bollards.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDiscussions are still on<br \/>\ncourse to ensure the installation of a 3,000mt\/hr capacity conveyor system to<br \/>\nensure cost efficient service delivery,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Container Terminal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He added that in August 2019,<br \/>\nthe first quay block was positioned to signal commencement of work on a new<br \/>\ncontainer terminal and added that all things being equal, 600 metres of the<br \/>\nquay wall would be completed come November 2020.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Oil<br \/>\nJetty\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Director of Takoradi port<br \/>\nnoted that so far 95 per cent of the first phase of new oil jetty facility had<br \/>\nbeen completed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He added that the second phase<br \/>\nof the project, which was currently ongoing, involved the installation of a<br \/>\nfirefighting system, a pigging system, heat tracing line and metring.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proposed Oil &amp;<br \/>\nGas Hub<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He revealed that the Ghana<br \/>\nPorts and Habours Authority (GPHA) was in discussions with a private partner,<br \/>\nRedsea Gateway Terminal Services (RSGT) for the development of the oil and gas<br \/>\nhub at the port.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe contract will involve the<br \/>\nreclamation of 28 acres of land at the former cocoa wharf, construction of 550<br \/>\nmetre quay wall with berth pockets dredged to -9m,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned that the hub when completed would pave the way for increased efficiency in the handling of oil supply vessels operating on Ghana\u2019s oil fields and beyond.<\/p>\n<p> <strong>From Emmanuel Opoku, Takoradi<\/strong> <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Takoradi Port recorded an increase in port traffic from 8.2 million metric tons (mt) in 2018 to 9.9 million mt in 2019, representing an increase of 21 per cent in total port traffic.\u00a0It also registered an increase of 43 per cent in exports.\u00a0 The port however, recorded 13 per cent decrease in imports, 21 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":777828,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-777827","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-business"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 -
