The Ghana Union of Traders Association \n(GUTA) is not relenting in its efforts to ensure foreign traders comply with \nlocal laws.<\/p>\n
The group said it is not perturbed about the demeanor of government in enforcing the law due to the protocols of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) which allows free trade among member countries.<\/p>\n
Discussing the outlook of GUTA on Adom FM\u2019s morning show, Dwaso Nsem<\/strong>, the Greater Accra Chairman, David Amoateng said they will close down shops belonging to foreign traders in demand for the enforcement of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre Act (865).<\/p>\n
According to him, the Act states unequivocally that, retail trade is an exclusive\u00a0preserve of Ghanaians.<\/p>\n

Mr. Amoateng bemoaned how GUTA has on several occasions \ncomplained about what he says is the collapse of their businesses due to the \ninvasion of foreigners in the retail sub-sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cGovernment has really failed us traders. These foreigners especially Nigerians don\u2019t pay taxes yet they make a lot of sales at our expense\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The GUTA Greater Accra Chairman revealed \nhow some Nigerian traders in Ghana condone and connive with unscrupulous \nofficials to under-invoice at the various ports of entry of the country, denying \ngovernment \u00a0the much-needed revenue to \ndevelop and benefit the county as a whole.<\/p>\n
Mr. Amoateng added that, until the agencies in charge \nensure the things are done, they won\u2019t open the foreign-owned retail shops closed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
