Vehicles formed long lines at gas stations and supermarkets, and traffic was gridlocked as highways reopened. But fire conditions were expected to deteriorate Saturday as high temperatures and strong winds are forecast to return.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThere is every potential that the conditions on Saturday will be as bad or worse than we saw\u201d on Tuesday, New South Wales Rural Fire Service Deputy Commissioner Rob Rogers said.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said 381 homes had been destroyed on the New South Wales southern coast this week and at least eight people have died this week in the state and neighboring Victoria, Australia&#8217;s two most-populous states, where more than 200 fires are currently burning.<\/p>\n<p>Fires have also been burning in Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"baobab-embedded-image\" alt=\"\" base=\"https:\/\/cdn.africannewsagency.com\/public\/ana\/media\/media\/2020\/01\/02\/media-reference%3Ac9d236f303ff45779773a0fa4c2df687.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/media-reference:c9d236f303ff45779773a0fa4c2df687.jpg\"   offsetx=\"\" offsety=\"\" cropwidth=\"\" cropheight=\"\" imagewidth=\"3000\" imageheight=\"2000\"\/><figcaption>\n  Smoke from wildfires covers Batehaven, near Batemans Bay, New South Wales, Australia. Picture: Mark Baker\/AP<br \/>\n <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt will continue to go on until we can get some decent rain that can deal with some of the fires that have been burning for many, many months,\u201d Morrison told reporters on Thursday. <\/p>\n<p>New South Wales authorities on Thursday morning ordered tourists to leave a 250-kilometer (155-mile) zone along the picturesque south coast.
