Alan Kyerematen, Trade Minister<\/strong><\/p>\n

GOVERNMENT
\nSAYS it has provided resources to support business promoters to establish \u2018One
\nDistrict, One Factory\u2019 projects in some 148 districts which are currently not
\ncovered under the programme.<\/p>\n

In
\nall, there are 181 1D1F projects covering 112 districts at various stages of
\nimplementation, including 58 existing companies, 26 projects under
\nconstruction, 26 pipeline projects currently under considering by PFIs; 58
\nEnable Youth 1D1F projects ready for construction by the first quarter of 2020
\n(small scale processing facilities to be owned by youth groups and financed by
\nAfDB and five 1D1F common user processing facilities ready for construction by
\nthe first quarter of 2020, and these would be owned by organized farmer groups
\nand funded by AfDB.<\/p>\n

There
\nare also going to be eight large scale 1D1F projects to be financed by a
\nconsortium of Chinese financial institutions, ready to commence construction by
\nthe third quarter of 2020.<\/p>\n

These
\nare contained in a press statement issued recently by the Ministry of Trade
\n& Industry, which reacted to recent social media reportage on some elected
\n1D1F projects.<\/p>\n

The
\nattention of the ministry has been drawn to negative reportage on selected 1D1F
\nprojects following the recent media encounter by the President.<\/p>\n

The
\nreportage maliciously attempts to belittle the progress made by government in
\nfacilitating the operationalization of the 1D1F initiative. The said reportage
\nmakes reference to two companies \u2013 Unijay Garments Limited and Volta Forest
\nProducts, as companies reported by the ministry to be 1D1F companies already in
\nexistence or are operational.<\/p>\n

Unijay Garments<\/strong><\/p>\n

Located
\nat Kumasi, it said this company, which produced garments, applied for
\nassistance under the 1D1F programme in July 2017, and had gone through the
\nrequired screening and qualified to receive support under the 1D1F programme.<\/p>\n

The
\ncompany has subsequently received an amount of GH\u00a22.5 million from Prudential
\nBank Limited as a 1D1F company, which amount has been applied as working
\ncapital for the existing business. In addition, the company has applied for
\nadditional GH\u00a210 million for an expansion programme under the same company name
\nwhich is currently being considered by the bank under the 1D1F programme.<\/p>\n

In
\nthe light of the above, it is difficult to understand how anybody could
\nreasonably object to the description of Unijay Garments Limited as an existing
\n1D1F company. <\/p>\n

Volta Forest Products Company<\/strong><\/p>\n

The
\nMinistry continued that the above-named company, located in Hohoe in the Volta
\nRegion, was engaged in the manufacture of wooden products. It said the company
\napplied for assistance under the 1D1F programme in November 2017 and had gone
\nthrough the required screening and qualified to receive support under the 1D1F
\nprogramme. The company has subsequently received an amount of GH\u00a21.5 million
\nfrom Prudential Bank Limited as a 1D1F company, which amount has been applied
