The suspects<\/strong><\/p>\n

The prosecution in the trial of four persons on
\ntrial for allegedly kidnapping two Canadian ladies in Kumasi in June this year
\nhas handed over GH\u00a2650 to Sampson Aghalor who is alleged to be the leader of
\nthe kidnap gang.<\/p>\n

The money was part of the items confiscated
\nfrom the accused person when he was arrested by a combined security team in
\nKumasi.<\/p>\n

There was a disagreement between the police and
\nthe lawyer for the accused persons over how much money they had on them at the time of their arrest.<\/p>\n

While Jeff Omarsa, one of the accused, claims
\nthe police are holding on to his GH\u00a2600, the investigator in the matter,
\nDetective Mathew Anokye, told the court that there is no such money with the
\npolice.<\/p>\n

The Detective, however, agreed that Sampson
\nAghalor, the mastermind of the kidnapping group, has GH\u00a2650 with the police
\nwhich will be released to him as directed by the court.<\/p>\n

Appearing before the court presided over by
\nJustice Mensah-Datsa, a Court of Appeal judge sitting as an additional High
\nCourt judge yesterday, Hilda Craig, a senior state attorney, handed the money
\nover to the court and it was subsequently given to the accused person\u2019s lawyer,
\nYaw Dankwa, to count.<\/p>\n

She, however, told the court that there was no
\nrecord of the police taking any money from Jeff Omarsa.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do not have any money with us. This is
\nbecause what we have on record for him is a mobile phone so per our records, no
\nmoney was taken from him\u201d, Ms. Hilda told the court.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, she had indicated that the
\nprosecution was yet to file all their disclosures. <\/p>\n

She indicated that they filed another batch of
\ndocuments last Wednesday and were waiting for some documents from Canada which
\nare very crucial to the case.<\/p>\n

Trial<\/strong><\/p>\n

The four were alleged to be part of a
\nkidnapping syndicate which had planned for few months how they were going to
\nkidnap white foreigners in Ghana and make their relatives pay some monies as
\nransom before they were released.<\/p>\n

Sampson Aghalor, Elvis Ojiyorwe, Jeff Omarsa,
\nall Nigerians, and a Ghanaian, Yussif Yakubu, have each been charged with two
\ncounts of conspiracy and another two counts of kidnapping.<\/p>\n

They have been put before the court for
\nallegedly conspiring to kidnap the two young ladies who were in the country for
\nvolunteering works and later demanded a ransom of $800,000.<\/p>\n

The four were arrested after Yussif Yakubu was
\ncaptured by a joint security team on June 11 and he led the team to arrest the
\nother suspects.<\/p>\n

The accused persons are said to have exchanged gunfire with the joint security team and threatened to kill the ladies if the team came closer.<\/p>\n
