Alfred Agbesi Woyome <\/strong><\/p>\n

The state has taken a further step in its quest
\nto sell properties belonging to businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome to defray the
\nGH\u00a251.2 million he fraudulently received as judgment debt.<\/p>\n

Two mansions belonging to the National
\nDemocratic Congress (NDC) financier located at Trassaco Valley in Accra
\nhave\u00a0 been put up for sale to the public.<\/p>\n

An advertisement detailing the availability of
\nthe property for sale has already been published by the Daily Graphic<\/em> newspaper paving the way for prospective buyers to
\nmake a move.<\/p>\n

The two properties have been earmarked to be
\nsold by the end of this month through an auction.<\/p>\n

Properties
\nSale<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Supreme Court presided over by a single
\njudge, Justice Alfred A. Benin, last month ordered the state to go ahead and
\nsell four properties of beleaguered businessman Alfred Woyome to defray the
\ndebt.<\/p>\n

This was after the court found that Woyome had
\ncolluded with defunct UT Bank to hide the properties from the state. <\/p>\n

The properties include three residential
\nproperties \u2013 two at Trassaco Valley and one at Kpehe, all in Accra, as well as
\na quarry at Mafi in the Volta Region.<\/p>\n

The state has also indicated that it has
\ndiscovered two more properties belonging to the
\nbusinessman and will take steps to sell them off.<\/p>\n

African
\nCourt<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prior to the judgment of the Supreme Court,
\nWoyome had run to the African Court on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights based in
\nArusha, Tanzania, where he filed a case against Ghana claiming discrimination
\nand violations against his human rights.<\/p>\n

In a unanimous decision, the court dismissed
\nthe application stating that Woyome\u2019s right to non-discrimination, right to
\nequality before the law, equal protection before the law and his right to be
\nheard by an impartial tribunal had all not been violated.<\/p>\n

Payment
\nPlan <\/strong><\/p>\n

Woyome after the ruling of the court wrote to
\nthe Attorney General pleading for time and an opportunity to discuss a term of
\npayment in instalments of not having to lose his properties.<\/p>\n

The AG, however, rejected the move and Woyome
\nfiled an application pleading with the Supreme Court to put on hold the sale of
\ntwo of his mansions, claiming that he was determined to pay the money if the
\nexecution of the court order was stayed.<\/p>\n

The panel presided over by Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie and assisted by Justices Sule Gbadegbe, Alfred Benin, Samuel Marful-Sau and Agnes Dordzie dismissed the application as \u2018unmeritorious\u2019.<\/p>\n
