President Nana Akufo-Addo<\/strong><\/p>\n

President
\nNana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said he wants to leave a mark by making Ghana a
\nworld-class centre for skills development.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe
\nwant to emphasize the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and
\nTraining (TVET) and make Ghana the leading country in TVET in Africa,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n

Addressing
\nthe 110th <\/sup>anniversary celebration of Ghana Secondary Technical
\nSchool (GSTS) in Takoradi on Saturday under the theme, \u201c110 Years of Creativity
\nin Secondary and Technical Education: Prospect and Challenges in Nation
\nBuilding,\u201d the President bemoaned the fact that most technical schools in the
\ncountry did not have laboratories and workshops for the practical components of
\nthe courses the students pursue.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt
\nis in the laboratories and workshops that young people get the opportunity to expand
\ntheir imagination and develop the skills that would equip them for the modern
\nworld,\u201d he said, adding \u201cwe are putting together policies that will enhance the
\neducation of our people to drive the industrialization process.\u201d<\/p>\n

He
\nsaid \u201cthis means there must be emphasis on science, technology, technical and
\nvocational education.\u201d<\/p>\n

The
\nPresident told the gathering that the government was tackling the perennial
\ninfrastructure problems of the TVET sector, saying \u201cwe shall be able to
\ntransform the country\u2019s economy and reduce unemployment
\nwhen we pay attention to technical and vocational education.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regional Minister<\/strong><\/p>\n

Western
\nRegional Minister Kwanena Okyere Darko-Mensah said the Free Senior High School
\npolicy had come to provide unhindered access to secondary school education to
\nevery eligible Ghanaian child.<\/p>\n

He
\nsaid for the past two years, a total of 32 projects had been undertaken in the
\nregion with GSTS benefiting from a two-storey dormitory block which is under
\nconstruction.<\/p>\n

Headmaster<\/strong><\/p>\n

The
\nHeadmaster of the school, Samuel Essel, mentioned that the school needed a
\n66-seater bus and expansion of the school dining hall and indicated that some
\nof the old blocks of the school needed renovation, as well as fence wall for
\nthe school.<\/p>\n

New Assembly Hall<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President later commissioned a new assembly hall complex and a dormitory block for GSTS which were stalled in 2016 but were expeditiously completed in furtherance of the Free SHS policy.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
