\nteachers in the country has been dominating cabinet meetings in recent times.<\/p>\n
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is said to be
\npassionate about improving the welfare of teachers who he has described as the
\nbackbone of Ghana\u2019s education system.<\/p>\n
Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly
\ncalled \u2018Napo\u2019 made the disclosure in Kumasi last Saturday during the 70 years
\ncelebration of Prempeh College.<\/p>\n
He said even though the New Patriotic Party (NPP)
\nadministration has done a lot to improve teachers\u2019 welfare, the president
\nseemed not satisfied.<\/p>\n
According to him, President Nana Akufo-Addo has
\nconstantly called for more to be done to enable teachers live comfortably in
\norder to motivate them to do more.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is an open secret that the NPP government has
\ncontributed immensely to improve the welfare of our dear teachers since
\nassuming the mantle of leadership.In less than three years, we have done enough
\nto help improve the living conditions of our teachers, which our predecessors
\nfailed woefully to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said \u201cGovernment is working with the teacher unions
\nto settle 2012 to 2016 teachers\u2019 allowances that the NDC failed to pay.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGovernment has paid substantial amounts with just
\nsome few still outstanding,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The minister stated that teachers recruited between
\n2017 and now have all been paid all their allowances, proving that the NPP
\ngovernment cares about teachers.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs I address you today, a new condition of service
\nfor teachers is being discussed,\u201d in anticipation of further improving the
\nliving conditions of teachers, adding \u201calso, blackboards are being replaced
\nwith whiteboards in classrooms to make our teachers teach in comfort, among
\nother significant interventions to better the lives of teachers.\u201d<\/p>\n
The minister said the President is of the strong conviction that to ensure quality education and to make the Free SHS successful, \u201cthe teacher is a key component and that is why he is always on our necks to ensure we work hard to improve the welfare of teachers.\u201d<\/p>\n
