{"id":758074,"date":"2019-12-04T13:29:07","date_gmt":"2019-12-04T13:29:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/12\/04\/jubilant-traders-fishermen-hail-nana-in-accra\/"},"modified":"2019-12-04T13:29:07","modified_gmt":"2019-12-04T13:29:07","slug":"jubilant-traders-fishermen-hail-nana-in-accra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/12\/04\/jubilant-traders-fishermen-hail-nana-in-accra\/","title":{"rendered":"Jubilant Traders, Fishermen Hail Nana In Accra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>One of the market jubilant women expressing her respect to the President at Makola market yesterday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hordes<br \/>\nof market women yesterday expressed adoration for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo<br \/>\nwhen he reached Makola Market as part of his tour of the Greater Accra Region.<\/p>\n<p>Some<br \/>\nof the women were seen lying on the floor out of deference for the President.<\/p>\n<p>From<br \/>\nMakola, he proceeded to Mantse Agbona where he presented 6,336 outboard motors<br \/>\nand other fishing equipment to fisherfolk who were also in a jubilant mood.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nPresident made the presentation through the Ministry of Fisheries, the Coastal<br \/>\nDevelopment Authority, the Agricultural Development Bank and CFAO at Mantse Agbona<br \/>\nin Accra during the second day of his tour of the Greater Accra Region.<\/p>\n<p>President<br \/>\nAkufo-Addo indicated that \u201cthis is the first batch of outboard motors out of a<br \/>\ntotal of 10,000 to be distributed to fisherfolk at subsidized prices.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Thanking<br \/>\nfisherfolk in the country for adhering to the closed fishing season, the<br \/>\nPresident said \u201cI am also happy to hear that the leaders and citizens<br \/>\nappreciate the work that the government is doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI<br \/>\nhave been informed that the traditional priests (Wulomei) themselves have asked<br \/>\nthat another month be added to the closed season for the artisanal fishermen<br \/>\nand for the trawlers; two more months. They themselves have seen the benefits<br \/>\nof the closed season, so I would also like to ask that you also put a stop to<br \/>\nthe practice of light fishing. This way, we will really be able to see some<br \/>\nprogress,\u201d President Akufo-Addo stressed.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nMinister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Elizabeth Afoley Quaye,<br \/>\nsaid, \u201cEver since we came to office, we have been gathering resources to get<br \/>\nyou as many outboard motors as possible. The Coastal Development Authority is<br \/>\nbringing 5,000 outboard motors. ADB and the Ministry of Fisheries are bringing 1,336<br \/>\nas well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She<br \/>\nadded that the women engaged in fishing were going to benefit from small-scale<br \/>\nloans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will distribute the loans amongst members of the National Fish Processors Association for their use. This year, we have heard that you have caught a lot of fish and they just need the money to work on the fish. We are also bringing more Ahot\u0254 ovens, 3,000 of them,\u201d she disclosed.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-src=\"blob:https:\/\/dailyguidenetwork.com\/c8660d25-2e78-44b3-8af3-7a0574c4fae6\" class=\"lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201%201'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-src=\"blob:https:\/\/dailyguidenetwork.com\/c8660d25-2e78-44b3-8af3-7a0574c4fae6\" alt=\"\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Commissioning More Projects<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President<br \/>\nAkufo-Addo yesterday also commissioned the reconstruction of the Otano<br \/>\nJunction\u2013School Junction road in the Adentan Municipality at the cost GH\u00a251.7<br \/>\nmillion.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\n4.5 kilometre road was started in March last year and serves Adjirangano,<br \/>\nAshaley Botwe, Adentan, Madina, Nmai Dzorn, Zoomlion, Trassaco Valley,<br \/>\nNanakrom, Santoe, East Legon Hills and its environs; it also connects to<br \/>\nAshaiman and Tema from that part of Accra.<\/p>\n<p>During<br \/>\nthe commissioning, residents and road users highly commended the Akufo-Addo<br \/>\ngovernment for the effort and also thanked the contractor, Oswal Investment<br \/>\nLimited, for completing within 7 months instead of the anticipated 24 months.<\/p>\n<p>Roads<br \/>\nand Highways Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta said the Otano Junction-School Junction<br \/>\nroad is one of the fastest growing areas in Greater Accra and the road has a<br \/>\nprojected average daily traffic of about 30,000.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said the reconstruction of the road was expected to improve the drainage situation of the area since several culverts and concrete U-drains had been fixed. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-src=\"blob:https:\/\/dailyguidenetwork.com\/8a74cf5c-a4f3-4a36-9cd0-2181a3d16b37\" class=\"lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201%201'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-src=\"blob:https:\/\/dailyguidenetwork.com\/8a74cf5c-a4f3-4a36-9cd0-2181a3d16b37\" alt=\"\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Pokuase Interchange <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nPokuase Interchange in Accra which was commenced in April 2018 is also taking<br \/>\nshape and President Akufo-Addo appeared impressed with progress made so far.<\/p>\n<p>At<br \/>\nthe commencement of his tour of some parts of Accra on Monday, the President<br \/>\nvisited the site at the Trobu Constituency in the Ga West Municipality and also<br \/>\ninspected other important projects.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nproject was originally proposed as a 3-tier single-point urban interchange and<br \/>\nwith government\u2019s intervention it was redesigned into a 4-tier Stack<br \/>\nInterchange.<\/p>\n<p>When<br \/>\nthe President visited the site, the contractor, Zhongmei Engineering Group Ltd,<br \/>\nwas busily doing road works, including drainage and pavement works and most of<br \/>\nthe auxiliary roads had been completed.<\/p>\n<p>The contractor told the President that the 4 kilometres of asphalt dual carriageway had been completed for the Awoshie link of the project and landscaping, street lighting, road signs, pedestrian facilities were being done while 1 kilometre of asphalt single carriageway for the Kwabenya section was almost done.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-src=\"blob:https:\/\/dailyguidenetwork.com\/08b99c28-7d8d-42b3-a3eb-d020c404b96e\" class=\"lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201%201'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-src=\"blob:https:\/\/dailyguidenetwork.com\/08b99c28-7d8d-42b3-a3eb-d020c404b96e\" alt=\"\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>Drainage<br \/>\nworks, retaining walls, earthworks were being constructed on the Accra to<br \/>\nKumasi highway towards the interchange in addition to the 2.8 kilometres of<br \/>\nvarious sizes of outfall storm drains constructed as part of the project with<br \/>\nall piles of foundation works almost done.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nprogress to date for the various elements are as follows: 54% of all pile caps<br \/>\ncompleted; 28% of piers completed; 20% of Bridge Abutment completed and 5% of<br \/>\nBridge Deck under construction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dome Kwabenya<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At<br \/>\nDome Kwabenya, President Akufo-Addo inspected work currently ongoing on the 5.5<br \/>\nkilometre Kwabenya Roundabout to Taifa road.
