A 27-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder for shooting and killing\u00a0his sister\u00a0for unfriending him on Facebook.<\/p>\n
At around 3:15 p.m on Thanksgiving Day, Anchorage police received two 911 calls that a woman had been shot in a residence on the 200 block of McCarrey Street in East Anchorage, charging documents stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The first call was from the uncle of the victim and the second came from the grandmother of the shooter, Moses Tony Crowe.<\/p>\n
The victim\u2019s uncle told a 911 dispatcher that \u201che heard a pop\u201d while he was cooking at the home, that his niece had accidentally been shot and that she was \u201cunconscious but breathing,\u201d according to the charging documents. Crowe\u2019s grandmother told police that her grandson had pulled a gun from his pocket and shot the victim, who was identified as Amanda Owen, Crowe\u2019s 23-year-old sister, the documents stated.<\/p>\n
Police said that when they arrived at the scene, they found Owen, who had been shot in the head. She was taken to Providence Alaska Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n
The woman, identified in the charging documents as Crowe and Owen\u2019s grandmother told detectives that the family had met at the home for a Thanksgiving meal, and that Crowe had been up late drinking until early in the morning and had slept till past noon. She told detectives that she was sitting on her bed that afternoon talking with Owen, who was in a chair with her one-year-old son in her lap.<\/p>\n
According to the charges, Crowe came into the bedroom and started
\ntalking with Owen, upset that she had unfriended or blocked him on
\nFacebook.<\/p>\n
The grandmother told detectives that Crowe pulled something out of
\nhis pocket that she wasn\u2019t able to see clearly. At that point, he
\n\u201cmanipulated\u201d the object; when giving her account to detectives, the
\ngrandmother made \u201ca motion consistent with racking the slide of a
\nsemiautomatic pistol,\u201d according to the charges. Crowe then pointed a
\nblack pistol at Owen\u2019s head and the gun went off, the grandmother told
\npolice.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m gonna go to jail for life,\u201d Crowe said, according to his
\ngrandmother\u2019s account. Crowe also said he \u201cdidn\u2019t mean it\u201d and asked his
\n grandmother not to call the police as he left the residence with the
\nhandgun, according to the charges.<\/p>\n
Crowe was later found near the scene with a Glock pistol and taken into custody by SWAT officers, the charges stated.<\/p>\n
During an interrogation at the police headquarters, Crowe told
\ndetectives that he accidentally shot Owen while \u201ctwirling the pistol
\naround on his finger when it went off,\u201d according to the charges. He
\nalso told detectives that the Glock was used in the shooting.<\/p>\n
Crowe repeatedly said that the shooting was accidental even though his grandmother told detectives a different version of events, the charges stated.<\/p>\n
At an arraignment attended by the family in Anchorage Jail Court,
\nDistrict Court Judge Leslie Dickson set Crowe\u2019s bail at $500,000 cash
\nwith third-party supervision and Pretrial Enforcement Division
\nsupervision with alcohol testing.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Crowe is currently being held at the Anchorage Correctional Complex.<\/p>\n
