Jay Z<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nAmerican rap star Jay-Z has sued an online Australian retailer over unlawful use of his name and hit song \u201c99 Problems\u201d in books that teach children the alphabet.<\/p>\n
According to reports, Jay Z filed a lawsuit at a Federal Court of Australia on November 22nd claiming Australian brand \u201cThe Little Homie\u201d had infringed on his intellectual property.<\/p>\n
Jay Z\u2019s lawyers stated that the company traded on his likeness and infringed on the copyright of the lyrics to \u201c99 Problems\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Little Homie uses its website to advertise a \u201chip-hop inspired\u201d children\u2019s book called \u201cA B to Jay-Z\u201d for Au$34.95, as well as a colouring book of the same name for Au$19.95.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit stated that Jay-Z had asked the company to stop selling the books in March 2018 but they refused and \u201cdeliberately and knowingly\u201d use his likeness and lyrics in a \u201cflagrant, glaring\u201d manner, according to The Age. The use of the rapper\u2019s name, image and lyrics was \u201ccalculated to injure, has injured and is continuing to injure the reputation and goodwill of Mr Carter,\u201d it continued.<\/p>\n
The case is scheduled for an initial hearing on December 6.<\/p>\n
