Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto<\/strong><\/p>\n

A GH\u00a2287,000
\nCrop Aggregation Centre, built at Koradaso in the Dormaa
\nCentral Municipality, to support Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) programme,
\nhas been inaugurated.<\/p>\n

The
\n500 metric tonne facility has been designed to use open and biomass dryers to
\nreduce high moisture and high content of aflatoxins in maize.<\/p>\n

It was
\nconstructed by AMPLIFIES Ghana project \u2013 \u00a0a United States Department of
\nAgriculture (USDA) Food for Progress funded project, which aims at increasing the
\nefficiencies of the feed value chain.<\/p>\n

The
\nfive-year project is being implemented by a consortium \u2013 the Adventist
\nDevelopment and Relief Agency (ADRA), the\u00a0American Soybean Association
\n(ASA), World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) and a group of
\nUniversities led by Kansas State University.<\/p>\n

Reverend
\nDr. William Yaw Brown, the Country Director, ADRA, said the storage facility
\nwould significantly help to reduce post-harvest losses.<\/p>\n

It
\nwould go a long way to assist farmers to earn good returns from their
\nproduction.<\/p>\n

Already,
\nthe farmers had been taught how to properly dry and store their maize, he said.<\/p>\n

He
\nsaid the successful implementation of the PFJ would be a game changer \u2013 create
\nwealth, improve food security and impact the economy. \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

The
\nproject had trained farmers in the area on how to properly dry and store maize.<\/p>\n

Ligaya
\nDiaz, the Chief of Party, AMPLIFIES Project (ASA\/WISHH), said she was confident
\nthat the facility would motivate farmers in the area to increase productivity
\nso that it would not become a \u2018white elephant\u2019.<\/p>\n

She
\nadded that, through the PFJ, Ghana would have the capacity to grow maize to
\nfeed the people and cut down on food imports to boost the local economy.<\/p>\n

Iddrisa
\nWatara, the Municipal Chief Executive, announced that the government was
\nconstructing a-1,000 metric tonne warehouse in the area.<\/p>\n

Additionally,
\n90,000 cashew seedlings and 126,000 coffee seedlings had been distributed to
\nfarmers under the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) programme.<\/p>\n

Augustine
\nNtow, a farmer at Koradaso, thanked ADRA and the project partners for the
\nfacility.<\/p>\n

He
\nappealed to the government to fix the Asenso Number One-Dwen-Koradaso and
\nDormaa-Ahenkro-Koradaso roads to make it easier for them to transport their farm
\nproduce to market centres.<\/p>\n

He
\ncomplained about the low price of maize, which he said, was affecting the
\nfarmers and called for standardized price to motivate them to increase
\nproductivity.<\/p>\n
