{"id":752314,"date":"2019-11-26T12:07:20","date_gmt":"2019-11-26T12:07:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/11\/26\/dont-bring-ndc-back-minister-advises\/"},"modified":"2019-11-26T12:07:20","modified_gmt":"2019-11-26T12:07:20","slug":"dont-bring-ndc-back-minister-advises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/11\/26\/dont-bring-ndc-back-minister-advises\/","title":{"rendered":"Don\u2019t Bring NDC Back \u2013Minister Advises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Prof Boateng interacting wi th security personnel at the programme<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Professor<br \/>\nKwabena Frimpong Boateng, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, has<br \/>\nadvised Ghanaians not to make a mistake by voting the National Democratic<br \/>\nCongress (NDC) back to power since it has nothing good to offer the country.<\/p>\n<p>He<br \/>\ninsisted that the pro-poor policies of the current New Patriotic Party (NPP)<br \/>\ngovernment, including the free Senior High School (SHS) and other development<br \/>\ninitiatives, would not survive under an NDC government.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nminister gave the warning when he handed over some speed boats procured by the<br \/>\ngovernment to the Nzema East Municipality and the Shama District Assembly in<br \/>\nthe Western Region.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nspeed boats numbering about 10 would assist in the fight against illegal mining<br \/>\nin the Ankobra and Pra rivers.<\/p>\n<p>Prof.\u00a0 Boateng indicated that the speed boats would<br \/>\nbe used to patrol the rivers to arrest recalcitrant illegal miners who are<br \/>\nstill in the business.<\/p>\n<p>He<br \/>\nsaid they were also procuring some passenger boats for the two coastal districts<br \/>\nto aid in the transportation of people and goods on the rivers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut<br \/>\nbefore that, the speed boats will be used to detect which areas in the rivers<br \/>\nneeded to be dredged and to remove tree stumps from the rivers,\u201d he indicated.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nMember of Parliament (MP) for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira, Catherine Afeku, who was at<br \/>\nthe handover ceremony, bemoaned the fact that communities that depended on<br \/>\nriver Ankobra had been deprived of their source of drinking<br \/>\nwater due to excessive illegal mining.<\/p>\n<p>She<br \/>\nsaid the speed boats would go a long way to help stop some of the illegal<br \/>\nactivities.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nMunicipal Chief Executive for Nzema East, Frank Okpeyen, lauded the<br \/>\ngovernment\u2019s plan towards ending illegal mining by establishing district mining<br \/>\ncommittees in mining areas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Community Mining<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prof.<br \/>\nBoateng later launched the Community Mining Programme in the Nzema East<br \/>\nMunicipality to formalize mining in selected communities.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the programme would ensure that \u201cmining will be done the right way within the tenets of the law, and will not destroy our natural resources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <strong>From Emmanuel Opoku, Axim<\/strong> <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prof Boateng interacting wi th security personnel at the programme Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, has advised Ghanaians not to make a mistake by voting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) back to power since it has nothing good to offer the country.
