{"id":747463,"date":"2019-11-19T12:34:42","date_gmt":"2019-11-19T12:34:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/11\/19\/akufo-addo-deserves-second-term-deputy-minister\/"},"modified":"2019-11-19T12:34:42","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T12:34:42","slug":"akufo-addo-deserves-second-term-deputy-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/11\/19\/akufo-addo-deserves-second-term-deputy-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Akufo-Addo Deserves Second Term &#8211; Deputy Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Abena Osei-Asare<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Minister of Finance, Abena Osei-Asare, has asked<br \/>\nGhanaians to vote massively for a second term of President<br \/>\nAkufo-Addo to ensure that the economic gains made under his Presidency are not<br \/>\neroded.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Finance Minister, who is also the New Patriotic Party<br \/>\n(NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa East, made the call while contributing<br \/>\nto the debate on the 2020 Budget in Parliament yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The deputy minister said under the Akufo-Addo government, the<br \/>\ncountry would see monumental growth and development and in the coming year. She<br \/>\nsaid in 2020, there would be more development and massive road sector development<br \/>\nas stated in the 2020 Budget.<\/p>\n<p>She said under President Akufo-Addo, a lot of social interventions<br \/>\nhad been introduced, including the famous free Senior High School policy to<br \/>\nameliorate the sufferings of Ghanaians, while many Ghanaians had been employed<br \/>\nin the public sector.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Deputy Finance Minister, about 43,000 people had<br \/>\nbeen employed in the various ministries, departments and agencies under the NPP<br \/>\ngovernment.<\/p>\n<p>She said in the educational sector, close to 50,000 people had<br \/>\nbeen employed with a little over 48,000 being teachers also employed in the<br \/>\nbasic and secondary schools.<\/p>\n<p>She said the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) left<br \/>\nbehind huge arrears of GH\u00a21.2 billion under the National Health Insurance<br \/>\nAuthority (NHIA) but the NPP government, knowing the importance of the scheme,<br \/>\nhad been able to clear all the arrears and make the NHIA very functional and<br \/>\neffective again.<\/p>\n<p>She said there were also arrears of GH\u00a2838 million for the Ghana<br \/>\nEducation Trust Fund (GETFund) left by the previous government but the NPP government<br \/>\nunder Nana Akufo-Addo had also cleared those arrears.<\/p>\n<p>The NDC MP for Yape\/Kasugwu, John Jinapor, in his contribution, said the only legacy Ghanaians would remember President Akufo-Addo for is what he called his \u2018limping\u2019 free SHS under double track system, adding that \u201cGhanaians are poorer today than before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>By Thomas Fosu Jnr<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abena Osei-Asare The Deputy Minister of Finance, Abena Osei-Asare, has asked Ghanaians to vote massively for a second term of President Akufo-Addo to ensure that the economic gains made under his Presidency are not eroded.
