President Nana Akuf-Addo<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
\nhas thrown an open challenge to entrepreneurs in Africa to play their part
\ntowards the liberation of the continent from its seeming dependence mentality.<\/p>\n

He believes entrepreneurship is an essential
\ncomponent of economic growth which has been embraced globally as one of the
\nmost important drivers of accelerated development.<\/p>\n

He made the call at the maiden Africa
\nNetpreneur Conference, a Jack Ma Foundation initiative held over the weekend in
\nAccra under the theme: \u201cThe Rise of Africa\u2019s Entrepreneur Heroes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us rise together and build Africa. Let us
\nleave a legacy we can be proud of to generations unborn,\u201d he stressed, adding that
\n\u201cwe are doing all of this because we cannot continue to lose our young ones on
\nthe Mediterranean Sea and the Sahara desert.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWe must create the enabling environment to unleash the entrepreneurial skills for national and continental development. I have said and I firmly believe that we can build a Ghana and indeed an Africa beyond aid that is a prosperous and self-confident Africa; that is in charge of its economic destiny, a transformed Africa that is prosperous enough to be beyond needing aid, an Africa that engages competitively with the rest of the world through trade and investment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n

\u201cWe can only do this if we invest in entrepreneurship
\nand ensure that the population are aggressive in pursuing the entrepreneurial
\nagenda,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

On his part, world-acclaimed business magnate, Jack
\nMa, whose Foundation initiated the Netpreneur, said they settled on Africa
\nbecause they recognized that the continent has real and hungry entrepreneurs
\nwho want to make a difference but have genuine challenges. <\/p>\n

He said the \u2018Rise of Africa\u2019s Entrepreneur
\nHeroes\u2019 event was ready to bring a change in the dynamics in the lives of the
\nAfrican entrepreneur, \u00a0who dares to make
\nthe difference. <\/p>\n

After seven months and nearly 10,000
\napplications, the Africa Netpreneur Prize initiative chose the 10 finalists for
\nthe competition\u2018s grand finale event in Accra.<\/p>\n

The 10 contestants, who hail from Egypt,
\nNigeria, Liberia, Rwanda and Cote d\u2019Ivoire, are expected to make their final
\npitches during the taping of \u201cAfrica\u2019s Business Heroes,\u201d a televised event
\nscheduled to air on November 29 in countries across Africa. <\/p>\n

The $1 million prize pool they will receive will depend on \u00a0Alibaba Group, Founder Jack Ma; Econet Group, Founder and Executive Chairman, Strive Masiyiwa; First Bank of Nigeria Chairman and the Chair Centre Group, Founder Ibukun Awosika, and the Executive Vice-Chairman of Alibaba Group, Joe Tsai.<\/p>\n
