{"id":746752,"date":"2019-11-18T14:16:42","date_gmt":"2019-11-18T14:16:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/11\/18\/2020-budget-amended-to-include-volta-roads\/"},"modified":"2019-11-18T14:16:42","modified_gmt":"2019-11-18T14:16:42","slug":"2020-budget-amended-to-include-volta-roads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/11\/18\/2020-budget-amended-to-include-volta-roads\/","title":{"rendered":"2020 Budget Amended To Include Volta Roads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Ken Ofori-Atta <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, on Friday<br \/>\nreturned to Parliament to make an amendment in the 2020 Budget Statement of the<br \/>\ngovernment presented to the House last Wednesday, which inadvertently omitted<br \/>\nthe construction of some critical roads in the Volta Region to include those<br \/>\nomitted roads in the budget.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Finance Minister, critical<br \/>\nroads to be constructed in 2020 which were captured on table 21 in the budget<br \/>\nstatement inadvertently omitted those under the Volta Region; therefore, after<br \/>\nthe presentation of the budget, his attention was drawn to the omission by the<br \/>\nVolta Regional Minister, Archibald Letsa, and the Minister of Energy, John<br \/>\nPeter Amewu.<\/p>\n<p>He, therefore, came to make those corrections<br \/>\nand announced three major roads that were to be considered critical for<br \/>\nconstruction in 2020 under the 2020 Budget.<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned the critical<br \/>\nroads as the 45 km Asikuma-Have road, 83 km Have-Hohoe-Jasikan road and the 99 km<br \/>\nHo-Dzodze-Denu road.<\/p>\n<p>He said apart from that, the Ho bypass road,<br \/>\nupgrading of the Akatsi town roads, upgrading of Kpando town roads, upgrading<br \/>\nof Ketu South roads and upgrading of Ketu North roads had been prioritized by<br \/>\nthe Ministry of Roads and Highways for construction in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>He also said the new Volivo Bridge over the<br \/>\nVolta River would be constructed while maintenance on the bridge at the Lower<br \/>\nVolta at Sogakope would be done.<\/p>\n<p>The Volta Caucus of Minority National<br \/>\nDemocratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament on Thursday held a press conference to<br \/>\nsay that the government intentionally left the region out of the equation in<br \/>\nterms of road construction.<\/p>\n<p>The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, said it<br \/>\nwas good that the minister came to do \u2018the appropriate thing.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He, however, noted that the mode of amendment<br \/>\nwas not legitimate and that a mere statement cannot be made to amend a motion<br \/>\nfor the presentation of the budget.<\/p>\n<p>The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu,<br \/>\nsaid that was not the first time that such omissions had occurred in the<br \/>\npresentation of budget statements.<\/p>\n<p>He said during the time of the former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, such omissions were made in the budget and insertions made later in Parliament, and so the Minority should not make any political capital out of that but rather praise government for making the necessary corrections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By Thomas Fosu Jnr <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ken Ofori-Atta The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, on Friday returned to Parliament to make an amendment in the 2020 Budget Statement of the government presented to the House last Wednesday, which inadvertently omitted the construction of some critical roads in the Volta Region to include those omitted roads in the budget.
