{"id":746619,"date":"2019-11-18T11:25:05","date_gmt":"2019-11-18T11:25:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/11\/18\/president-earns-dagbon-title\/"},"modified":"2019-11-18T11:25:05","modified_gmt":"2019-11-18T11:25:05","slug":"president-earns-dagbon-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/11\/18\/president-earns-dagbon-title\/","title":{"rendered":"President Earns Dagbon Title &#8211;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The Ya Na sandwiched between President Akufo-Addo and the visiting Barbadian PM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The King of Dagbon, Ya Na, Abukari Mahama II, has enskinned President<br \/>\nAkufo-Addo as Dagbon Malti Na Abudani I at the Gbewa Palace in Yendi.<\/p>\n<p>Malti Na in Dagbon, Chief Repairer of Dagbon, in the Dagbani<br \/>\nlanguage, was bestowed upon the President by the King in appreciation of his<br \/>\nrestoration of peace to the people of the ethnic group.<\/p>\n<p>The gesture, which attracted acclamation from thousands of people<br \/>\nwho graced this year\u2019s Damba Festival of the people of Dagbon, was a rare<br \/>\noccasion because the annual festival had been put on hold following protracted<br \/>\nchieftaincy disputes among Dagombas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have just emerged from a crisis that began almost seven decades<br \/>\nago; thanks to your government\u2019s unrelenting efforts in helping us to resolve<br \/>\nour succession crisis. I want to express the gratitude of the chiefs and people<br \/>\nof Dagbon to President Akufo-Addo for the great role played by you and your<br \/>\ngovernment to get us where we are today,\u201d the King of Dagbon said.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, the Ya Na thanked former Presidents J. A. Kufuor, late<br \/>\nAttah Mills and John Mahama for working first to move Dagbon forward on the<br \/>\npath of peace which has finally opened the way for progress and<br \/>\ndevelopment.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>The Ya Na expressed his gratitude to the Committee of Eminent Chiefs<br \/>\nled by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who worked very hard to achieve<br \/>\nagreement on a working roadmap that the government diligently pursued to the<br \/>\nfinal destination.<\/p>\n<p>The Ya Na noted that the Akufo-Addo administration had created jobs<br \/>\nfor his sons and daughters in Dagbon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Damba Festival <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Damba Festival is an annual event which began centuries ago<br \/>\nunder Naa Zangina, the 17th King of Dagbon. It is the most celebrated festival<br \/>\nin the Northern Region.<\/p>\n<p>President Akufo-Addo, speaking at the festival themed: \u201cA New<br \/>\nDagbon: Peace and Unity for Development,\u201d said he was happy that Dagbon had<br \/>\nembraced the joy of holding together and not being divided.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that over 30 years, the Damba Festival had been impossible<br \/>\nto be celebrated due to the Dagbon crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, we have proof that the peace of Dagbon is holding and we can<br \/>\nbegin to point to concrete signs of the peace dividend. The young people of<br \/>\nYendi, who have known nothing but strife, can now see more and attractive side<br \/>\nof their heritage. The Damba Festival is no longer a tale of bygone years told<br \/>\nby nostalgic old men and women,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The President called on all the people of Dagbon to help transform<br \/>\nthe area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are exciting things happening in the education and health<br \/>\nsectors and Dagbon must be part of it.Teachers, doctors and other health<br \/>\nworkers must feel safe and accepted in the communities they are sent to provide<br \/>\nteaching and healthcare,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe deplorable state of the road network in this region is a matter<br \/>\nof great concern to me and my government and that is why we have embarked on<br \/>\naddressing the road deficit.
