A security expert and a
\nprivate investigator, Kwame Dankwa has sued the branch secretary of the Full
\nGospel Church branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Shai
\nOsudoku Constituency, Owula Mangortey, and three others for defamation.<\/p>\n
According to a suit filed
\nbefore an Accra High Court, the defendants since October, caused to be
\npublished as well as published misleading and defamatory articles about him
\nwhich suggests that he had usurped the powers of some army generals and is
\nconstantly harassing and intimidating them as well as the rank and file of the
\nMilitary Police.<\/p>\n
The defendants according to
\nthe suit without any evidence also alleged that the plaintiff is overseeing the
\ntraining of vigilantes at the Asutuary National Security Training Camp in the
\nGreater Accra Region.<\/p>\n
Attached to the suit are
\nGiraffe Publication, publishers of the Daily Post Newspaper, the editor of the
\npaper, Michael Dokosi as well as Ghananews Online.<\/p>\n
In his statement of case, the
\nplaintiff avers that Owula Mangortey caused the paper to publish that he has a
\npermanent office and presence at the offices of the Provost Marshall and the
\nCommanding Officer of the Military Police.<\/p>\n
The suit further avers that the
\nplaintiff is \u201coperating the barracks and supervising troop peacekeeping
\nrotations and control of vigilantes training at the Asutuare National Security
\nTraining Camp.\u201d<\/p>\n
The publication according to
\nthe plaintiff also alleges he was responsible for the arrest, interrogation and
\ndetention of several officers and men of the forces.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first defendant (Owula
\nMangortey) published that from 8th June, 2019, five batches of 200 vigilantes
\nwere trained by soldiers of Ghana Armed Forces and then goes on to link the
\nplaintiff with the alleged training of the vigilantes and claims plaintiff has
\noperational and tactical contacts of the Asutuare Camp, which is an
\ninstallation of the Ghana Armed Forces,\u201d the suit avers.<\/p>\n
Again, the defendants alleged
\nthat the plaintiff\u2019s personal Toyota vehicle belongs to either the Ghana Armed
\nForces or the National Security Council Secretariat.<\/p>\n
Mr. Dankwa avers that
\nvigilantism is a criminal enterprise and by the defendant\u2019s publication, it is
\nunderstood to mean that he is involved in training people for criminal
\nactivities.<\/p>\n
He avers that the publications
\nwere meant to \u201cdefame him, subject him to public hatred, ridicule, odium and to
\nexpose his life as well as the life of his mother and fianc\u00e9 to danger by
\ngiving to the whole world his phone number, car number, his mother\u2019s name and
\nhis hometown while alleging that he trains vigilantes and intimidates and
\narrest soldiers.\u201d<\/p>\n
He is seeking general damages of a million Ghana Cedis against the defendants, an order directed at them to retract the publication and render an apology for it as well as cost including lawyer\u2019s fees.<\/p>\n
