Eric Kojo Dua <\/strong><\/p>\n

The case of two persons accused over the
\ngruesome murder of two police officers at Budumburam, near Kasoa in the Central
\nRegion, has been adjourned to November 19, 2019.<\/p>\n

This was after the prosecution led by ASP
\nSylvester Asare wrote to the court pleading with it to adjourn the matter.<\/p>\n

The accused persons were not brought to court
\nand there was no explanation as to why the prosecution wanted an adjournment, but
\nDAILY
\nGUIDE<\/em><\/strong> learnt that a letter was sent to the Kaneshie District Court
\npresided over by Magistrate Eleanor Kakra Barnes-Botchway.<\/p>\n

A lawyer defending Eric Kojo Dua, the main
\nsuspect, had at the last sitting requested psychiatric evaluation for his
\nclient claiming it was not usual for someone to brandish a gun and use it in that
\nmanner.<\/p>\n

He told the court that he had known the suspect
\nsince he was a child and that he was a humble bloke and
\ncannot fathom how he could have killed the policemen.<\/p>\n

He suggested that the death of the accused
\nperson\u2019s mother might have affected him and he (lawyer) thought an evaluation
\nwould put his suspicions to rest.<\/p>\n

The prosecution led by ASP Sylvester Asare had opposed
\nthe request of the lawyer over the accused person\u2019s \u2018sanity\u2019 and expressed
\nsurprise that the counsel could advance such an argument.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, the court turned down the request
\nfor the psychiatric evaluation saying the accused person had so far not shown
\nany sign of insanity.<\/p>\n

Murder<\/strong><\/p>\n

The suspect on August 28 shot and killed Sgt.
\nMichael Dzamasi, a service driver, and L\/Cpl Awal Mohammed \u2013 both personnel of
\nthe Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) detachment at Kasoa in the
\nCentral Region.<\/p>\n

They were said to be on Task Force duties on
\nthe Kasoa-Winneba highway when the main suspect, Kojo Dua, and the other three
\nsuspects (also on trial) on board an unregistered Toyota Camry blatantly
\nignored the signal of the officers to stop and sped off.<\/p>\n

Other events led to Eric Dua shooting and
\nkilling both officers who had since been laid to rest.<\/p>\n

Kojo Duah was on the run after the deadly
\nincident and was later arrested on the Senchi Bridge on Saturday, August 31, in
\nthe Eastern Region.<\/p>\n

He is reported to have said he killed Sgt. Dzamesi out of revenge for the death of his mother because he was convinced that the deceased was responsible for it.<\/p>\n
