Vice-President Dr. Bawumia welcoming Sun Chunlan<\/strong><\/p>\n

The
\nsecond tranche of the $2 billion Sinohydro deal has been approved and set to be
\ndisbursed early next year.<\/p>\n

It
\nfollows an approval given by Sinosure, the Chinese Export and Credit Insurance
\nCorporation.<\/p>\n

Vice-President
\nDr. Mahamudu Bawumia who dropped the hint yesterday could not hide his excitement,
\nsaying \u201cI\u2019m happy that Sinosure has approved the first seal lot
\nof the phase one; we are happy with the progress.\u201d<\/p>\n

During
\na meeting with the Vice Premier of China, Sun Chunlan, at the Jubilee House (Presidency)
\nin Accra yesterday, the Vice-President said \u201cthere was a time when people
\nthought it would not materialize, but it has materialized!\u201d adding \u201cthe rest of
\nthe first phase will come through by March of 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n

The
\n$2 billion Master Project Support Agreement (MPSM) was signed between the
\nGovernment of Ghana and Sinohydro Corporation Limited for the construction of
\ninfrastructural projects in Ghana by President Akufo-Addo and Chinese President
\nXi Jinping in September 2018.<\/p>\n

Parliament
\nin July approved a $2 billion Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA) between
\nGhana and Sinohydro Corporation Limited for construction of priority
\ninfrastructural projects.<\/p>\n

The
\nfacility, a project financing arrangement, was laid in Parliament by Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng,
\na Deputy Minister of Finance.<\/p>\n

The
\nbarter trade facility will be used to construct roads, hospitals, houses, rural
\nelectrification, interchanges, bridges and other government priority projects
\nin spite of failed attempts by the opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) to
\nshoot it down.<\/p>\n

Considering
\nhow far the deal has come, Dr. Bawumia thanked the government and people of
\nChina for the support.<\/p>\n

He
\nalso thanked the Chinese government for a 300 million Yuan grant and a debt
\nwrite-off of 250 million Yuan to Ghana, both totalling 550 million Yuan, saying
\n\u201cwe are most appreciative.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also expressed gratitude for the support in the technical and vocational institutes that the Chinese government was helping Ghana to put together which was launched yesterday.<\/p>\n
