President Nana Akufo-Addo and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari <\/strong><\/p>\n

Nigerian traders operating in
\nGhana under the umbrella of Nigerian Union Traders Association (NUTA) have
\nappealed to President Akufo-Addo and his Nigerian counterpart President
\nMuhammadu Buhari to come to their aid. <\/p>\n

In a release signed by their president,
\nChief Chukwuemeka Nnaji and secretary general, Evaristus Nwankwo; they
\ncomplained about the closure of their shops in both Accra and Kumasi.<\/p>\n

The closures they claimed had
\nresulted in their losing of millions of Cedis. Not even their report to the
\nPolice about their predicament, they said, had resulted in any change in
\nattitude by the hostile individuals, who they added, were acting in the name of
\nthe Ghana Union Traders Association (GUTA).<\/p>\n

In spite of the harassment,
\nthey now suffer at the hands of GUTA Ghanaian traders in Nigeria, some of them
\ninvolved in fishing and other business activities were enjoying their stay in
\nthat country. Although the Nigerian Investment Promotion Council law prohibits
\nforeigners from engaging in retailing; the law is not applied on Ghanaians. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are aware that the
\nGhanaian business community in Nigeria has not been harassed in any way and
\nthey are doing their business unhindered. From Ilorin to Ekiti, Kaduna to
\nCalabar, the Ghanaian community is the second largest in the fishing business
\nas it is from Lagos to Port Harcourt,\u201d they said. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are appealing to our president,
\nMuhammadu Buhari to save us and our families from this GUTA intimidation. We do
\nnot sleep well again here in Ghana because of GUTA,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to let the world know
\nthat the Ghanaian government has not locked up any of our shops. It is rather
\nGUTA which has been using local street urchins to do their hatchet work of
\nlocking up our shops,\u201d they stated. <\/p>\n

According to them, in Nigeria some Ghanaians hold executive positions in the local traders association. <\/p>\n
