\nNana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged people of the newly created Bono, Ahafo
\nand Bono East regions to show the same commitment to the development of the
\nregions as demonstrated by their forefathers in the creation of Brong-Ahafo in
\n1959.<\/p>\n
The
\nPresident gave the advice during the 60th anniversary celebration of the former
\nBrong-Ahafo Region which was also used to welcome the three separate regions of
\nBono, Ahafo and Bono East under the theme: \u201cUnited in Separation for Progress.\u201d<\/p>\n
Addressing
\nthe colourful durbar of chiefs and people of the three regions at Sunyani
\nJubilee Park, the President, whose speech was read by the Minister of Planning,
\nProf. George Gyan-Baffour, said he was determined to ensure equitable
\ndistribution of national resources.<\/p>\n
\u201cThough
\nyou are now separated, the things that bind you together as one people, family
\nand culture still remain the same,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
He
\nreminded the people that those who led the creation of former Brong-Ahafo \u201cdemonstrated
\nvision, commitment, hard work, discipline, determination, resilience and
\nundulating spirits to develop the region to its present status of human and
\nnatural resource development.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt
\nis, therefore, pertinent for us to use this anniversary to take stock of our
\nhistorical past, learn our mistakes and use the experiences to forge ahead to
\ndevelop our separate regions.\u00a0 Since 1959
\nwhen the region was created, it has witnessed tremendous improvement in
\nphysical infrastructural and human resource development.\u201d<\/p>\n
The
\nPresident gave an assurance that the new regions would witness development in
\neducation, road, health, water, electricity, communication as well as general
\nimprovement in the social life of the people, saying \u201ccontractors are already
\non site for the construction of regional coordinating councils.\u201d<\/p>\n
The
\nPresident paid glowing tribute to Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, a son of the region,
\nwhom he said was a gift to the nation, having contributed to the democratic
\ndevelopment of the country.<\/p>\n
In
\nhis welcome address, the President for the Brong-Ahafo House of Chiefs,
\nPimampim Yaw Kagbrese V, congratulated the President on the introduction of the
\nFree SHS policy, and advised the people to take advantage of the policy to
\neducate their children.<\/p>\n
Besides,
\nhe urged government to speed up the process of passing a legislation that would
\nlead to the creation of regional house of chiefs for the new regions to enable
\nchiefs to contribute their quota to development.<\/p>\n
Some
\neminent personalities who contributed significantly to the development of
\nformer Brong-Ahafo were recognized. They included Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, Ama
\nBusia, AjoaYeboah-Afari, a veteran journalist and a
\ncolumnist, among a host of others.<\/p>\n
