Dr William Adu, the Deputy National Director, Veterinary Services,<br \/>\nhas advised the public to seek veterinary services regularly for animals to<br \/>\nkeep them healthy to avoid transmitting deadly diseases to humans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He said healthy<br \/>\nanimals meant healthy human beings, because deadly diseases such as bird flu and<br \/>\nrabies could be transmitted from animals to humans. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Dr Adu was speaking<br \/>\nat an event to climax Ghana\u2019s third (fourth globally) annual International<br \/>\n&#8220;One Health Day&#8221; held at Tokor in the Ketu South Municipality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">One Health Day is a<br \/>\nglobal campaign marked every November 3 to bring attention to the need for a<br \/>\nOne Health approach to address the shared health threats at the<br \/>\nhuman\u2013animal\u2013environment interface, initiated in 2016 by the One Health<br \/>\nCommission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Dr Adu noted that it<br \/>\nwas in the best interest of human beings to keep themselves and their animals<br \/>\nhealthy because \u201canimals transmit diseases to humans and humans also transmit<br \/>\ndiseases to animals.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Dr Garba Ahmed, the<br \/>\nFood and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Emergency Centre for Transboundary<br \/>\nAnimal Diseases (ECTAD) Country Team Leader, said the situation could be dire<br \/>\nif professionals in human, animal, food and environmental health did not come<br \/>\ntogether in the use of correct antimicrobials to avert the threat of<br \/>\nresistance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr Joseph Kwami<br \/>\nDegley, the Ketu South Municipal Director of Health Services, underscored the<br \/>\nimportance of a multi-sectoral collaboration to tackling human, animal and<br \/>\nenvironmental health to effectively deal with emerging diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He cited the joint<br \/>\neffort of the Directorate, the Environmental Health and Veterinary Offices,<br \/>\nwhich had yielded some results in terms of early detection, reporting and<br \/>\nresponding to diseases in the border municipality, suggesting that the One<br \/>\nHealth approach was practicable and the way to go.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr Seji Saji, the<br \/>\nDeputy Director-General, National Disaster Management Organisation, admitted it<br \/>\ntook the collaborative, multi sectoral, and transdisciplinary approach to put<br \/>\nthe recent cases of A3 Influenza recorded in three senior high schools in the<br \/>\nVolta and Eastern regions under control and called for more of such<br \/>\ncollaborations for desired results.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr Elliot Edem<br \/>\nAgbenorwu, Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu South, pledged government\u2019s<br \/>\ncommitment to the One Health approach to promote healthy living across the<br \/>\ncountry. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">GNA<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ewoenam Kpodo, GNA Tokor (V\/R), Nov. 08, GNA &#8211;
