President Nana Addo Dankwa
\nAkufo-Addo has advised Ghanaian companies to position themselves to take
\nadvantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) policy.<\/p>\n

The AfCFTA, with its
\nheadquarters coming to Ghana, is set to cover a market of 1.2 billion people at
\nan estimated GDP of $3 billion across the 54-member states of the African Union.<\/p>\n

It would also serve as the
\nvehicle for Ghana to trade with other member states in a more modern and
\nsophisticated manner.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the first Chief
\nExecutive Officers (CEOs) Executive Forum in Accra yesterday, the President
\nsaid, \u201cEmpowered Ghanaian businesses and enterprises should be frontline actors
\nin this new exciting journey in Africa\u2019s economic history.\u201d<\/p>\n

As part of efforts by
\ngovernment to create a business friendly environment in Ghana, President
\nAkufo-Addo said he had requested the leadership of the Bank of Ghana to
\nexpedite action on addressing the high interest rates challenge that clearly
\naffects the private sector negatively as far as the ease of doing business is
\nconcerned.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have requested the
\ngovernor to interrogate the issue of high interest rate in Ghana and how the
\nproblem could be addressed to enhance the competitiveness of the private sector,\u201d
\nhe said.<\/p>\n

On his part, Trade and Industry
\nMinister Alan Kyerematen \u00a0said government
\nwas introducing a Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) mechanism to engage all CEOs in
\nGhana to foster an all-year round interaction that would ensure that government
\nlistens to the ultimate decision makers of corporate Ghana.<\/p>\n

That, he said, was a build
\nup on previous ones such as the Ghana Investors Advisory Council that was introduced
\nduring the previous Kufuor-led administration, the
\nprivate enterprise foundation introduced to create a body to present a single
\nvoice for the private sector, and the national economic forum created under the
\nformer administration.<\/p>\n

The Trade Minister
\nindicated that the dialogue would be an all-year round activity that would
\nextend to other regions apart from Accra.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Additionally, a coordinating mechanism in the form of a secretariat has since been established to facilitate the activities of the PPD mechanism and process the outcome of all PPD engagements into policy interventions of the government.<\/p>\n
