{"id":739752,"date":"2019-11-07T13:06:17","date_gmt":"2019-11-07T13:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/11\/07\/support-postgraduate-education\/"},"modified":"2019-11-07T13:06:17","modified_gmt":"2019-11-07T13:06:17","slug":"support-postgraduate-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/11\/07\/support-postgraduate-education\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Support Postgraduate Education\u2019 &#8211;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Dr. Eudora Hagan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Dean of the School<br \/>\nof Graduate Studies of the Takoradi Technical University (TTU), Dr. Eudora<br \/>\nHagan, has called on universities in Ghana to find alternative ways of<br \/>\ngenerating funds to support postgraduate education in the country. <\/p>\n<p>According to her, universities<br \/>\nin Ghana are faced with a number of challenges that hamper effective<br \/>\npostgraduate studies, especially the issue of funding for postgraduate research<br \/>\nleading to only a few students obtaining higher degrees. <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Hagan was speaking<br \/>\nat the Second Senate Meeting of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana<br \/>\n(GRASAG National) held at TTU on Saturday, November 2, 2019. <\/p>\n<p>She stated that<br \/>\ngovernment must find more resources to tackle the problems of postgraduate<br \/>\nstudies, adding that universities \u201cmust try and find alternative ways of<br \/>\ngenerating funds to support postgraduate education.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p><strong>Scholarships Secretariat Boss award<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>GRASAG used the occasion<br \/>\nto award the Registrar of the Scholarships Secretariat, Kingsley Agyeman, for<br \/>\nhis role in ensuring the timely disbursement of thesis and research grants to<br \/>\nease the burden of postgraduate students in the country.<\/p>\n<p>In October, the<br \/>\nScholarships Secretariat started making payment for the bursaries of the<br \/>\n2018\/2019 academic year. This is an improvement on how issues of bursaries have<br \/>\nbeen handled in time past where students in some situations had to demonstrate<br \/>\nor threaten demonstration before they are paid. <\/p>\n<p>According to GRASAG, the<br \/>\ntenure of Mr. Agyeman has brought real transformation in the way thesis and research<br \/>\ngrants for postgraduate students are processed and disbursed.<\/p>\n<p>In a citation presented by the GRASAG president, he stated that \u201cyour hallmarks<br \/>\nover the period you have served in this office have been hard work, diligent<br \/>\nand integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>GRTF<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>GRASAG added that the<br \/>\nregistrar has shown commitment to the establishment of the Graduate Research<br \/>\nTrust Fund (GRTF), pointing out that his enthusiasm and ability to motivate<br \/>\nothers have resulted in a significant increase in the secretariat\u2019s productivity<br \/>\nand positive outlook. <\/p>\n<p>The GRTF is a fund created by GRASAG to provide funding source for more meaningful research work to contribute to national development.
