Henry Nana Boakye \u2013 National Youth Organizer of NPP<\/strong><\/p>\nThe governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the NDC for a \u2018campaign of hate and division\u2019 after it accused President Akufo-Addo of stocking his government with his family and friends.<\/p>\n
National Youth Organiser Nana Boakye insisted the appointments of family and relatives into\u00a0government were made on the basis of competence.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are not sure about appointing enemies,\u201d he said at a press conference to respond to the NDC which\u00a0has released a list of 51 names of persons it claims are relatives\u00a0and cronies\u00a0in the Akufo-Addo government.<\/p>\n
Calling the numbers \u201ca classic and unprecedented\u201d case of nepotism, the opposition party\u00a0said the President, Nana Akufo-Addo has broken his promise not to run a family and friends government.<\/p>\n
The NDC, therefore,\u00a0called for the passage of an anti-nepotism bill.<\/p>\n
In reply, the NPP has pointed fingers at the NDC for starting nepotism.<\/p>\n
Nana Boakye referred to a comment by NDC leader Samuel Ofosu Ampofo made in August 2013 that he is a strong believer of family and friends.<\/p>\n
The NPP National Youth Organiser pointed out that under the Mahama while in power\u00a0handed his brother Ibrahim Mahama\u00a080% of the country\u2019s known bauxite deposits.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can also come out with a tall list of their relations\u201d he threatened before dismissing such move.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, there is such a tall list but we think it is too cheap and unproductive\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
The NPP also challenged\u00a0the authenticity of the list, pointing out that at least 33 names\u00a0\u201chave no real family ties\u201d to the President.<\/p>\n
He called the allegations of nepotism\u00a0\u201cfrivolous and unsubstantiated\u201d stressing\u00a0\u201cit should not matter\u201d the family ties an appointee may have.<\/p>\n
\u201cAre they not competent?\u201d he said and challenged the NDC to prove the unsuitability of persons it named in their list.<\/p>\n
He said some of the appointees had lucrative private-sector jobs but left them to sacrifice for their country.<\/p>\n
Nana Boakye mentioned Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta who he said donates his salary to charity.<\/p>\n
The NPP said instead of sowing seeds of ethnocentrism, the NDC should be providing policy alternatives to the Ghanaian people.<\/p>\n
Nana Boakye highlighted government\u2019s successes in rolling out social impactful programmes such as free Senior High School and Nation Builders Corp (NABCo) which provides jobs for unemployed graduates.<\/p>\n
He called the NDC press conference an empty waste of time.<\/p>\n
