{"id":737572,"date":"2019-11-04T15:06:28","date_gmt":"2019-11-04T15:06:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/11\/04\/well-maintain-fiscal-discipline-despite-infrastructural-projects-oppong-nkrumah\/"},"modified":"2019-11-04T15:06:28","modified_gmt":"2019-11-04T15:06:28","slug":"well-maintain-fiscal-discipline-despite-infrastructural-projects-oppong-nkrumah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/11\/04\/well-maintain-fiscal-discipline-despite-infrastructural-projects-oppong-nkrumah\/","title":{"rendered":"We\u2019ll Maintain Fiscal Discipline Despite Infrastructural Projects \u2013 Oppong Nkrumah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Kojo Oppong Nkrumah  <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said that the government\u2019s planned and ongoing infrastructural developments will not cause it to overspend in the election year.<\/p>\n<p>He said the government has worked on sourcing funds from various sources that will not have any direct effect on the fiscal account.<\/p>\n<p> Speaking on the\u00a0<strong>Citi Breakfast Show<\/strong>\u00a0on Monday, he said President Nana Akufo-Addo has instructed the Economic Management Team not to compromise on the country\u2019s fiscal discipline although there are plans to execute many infrastructural developments. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of pipeline works on infrastructure generally and roads\u2026 We\u2019ve been working on a combination of funding sources, some of which may not necessarily come through the national fiscal account but [will] still deliver on infrastructure generally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo when you put that together with some of the other infrastructure work that are being funded off the immediate or short term fiscal [measures], then you can understand that you will still see some significant infrastructure works this year and next year while on the other hand you maintain the fiscal discipline that we brought back,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n<p>Many analysts have warned about Ghana\u2019s consistent budget overruns in election years, a development blamed on successive government\u2019s rush to undertake projects aimed at winning them more votes in the elections.<\/p>\n<p>But Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says although the New Patriotic Party (NPP ) government is interested in embarking on many infrastructural developments, it will not in any way compromise fiscal discipline or go beyond the 5% cap on budget overrun.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe President has been quite clear that despite the fact that we want to deliver on infrastructure and programmes, and so on,we cannot compromise on fiscal discipline\u2026.
