{"id":737281,"date":"2019-11-04T09:41:08","date_gmt":"2019-11-04T09:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/11\/04\/banking-sector-to-deliver-stronger-performance\/"},"modified":"2019-11-04T09:41:08","modified_gmt":"2019-11-04T09:41:08","slug":"banking-sector-to-deliver-stronger-performance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/11\/04\/banking-sector-to-deliver-stronger-performance\/","title":{"rendered":"Banking Sector To Deliver Stronger Performance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Dr. Ernest Addison<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The banking sector in Ghana is projected to deliver a stronger performance in the coming years.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to the 2019 Banking Sector Report released by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).<\/p>\n<p>According to the 16-pages report, there would be continued improvement in the key Financial Soundness Indicators (FSIs).<\/p>\n<p>It said \u201cthe gradual recovery in credit growth is expected to be sustained on the back of strong deposit growth and sufficient capital levels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, it observed, further improvement in asset quality is projected, with banks\u2019 strengthening credit risk management processes and intensifying loan recovery efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The report provides an assessment of the performance of Ghana\u2019s banking sector based on the aggregated financial statements of the sector, which consists of 23 banks as at August 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Gains<\/p>\n<p>The review shows that significant gains have been made since the onset of the banking sector reforms two years ago, the report said. <\/p>\n<p>It added that in particular, a well-capitalized, solvent, liquid and profitable banking sector has emerged with improved financial soundness indicators.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, asset growth is robust.<\/p>\n<p>Total Assets<\/p>\n<p>It revealed that total assets of the banking sector amounted to GH\u00a2 115.18 billion as at end August 2019, recording an annual growth of 10.1 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Domestic assets which constitute a larger  proportion of total assets, increased by 12.9 percent to GH\u00a2105.76 billion while foreign assets contracted by 14.0 percent on account of reductions both banks\u2019 nostro balance sheets and placement abroad.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BY Melvin Tarlue<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Ernest Addison The banking sector in Ghana is projected to deliver a stronger performance in the coming years.
