President Nana Addo
\nDankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed Ghana\u2019s commitment to the values of the
\nCommonwealth of Nations.<\/p>\n

Generally known as the Commonwealth, the
\nCommonwealth of Nations is a political association of 53-member states, nearly
\nall of them former territories of the then British Empire.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a meeting with the
\nSecretary-General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland, at the Jubilee House
\non Thursday when she paid a courtesy call on the Presidency, the President said,
\n\u201cAs a strong and faithful member, Ghana continues to stand by these values
\nbecause the organisation has had positive influence on humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Secretary-General is in the country to
\nattend the Commonwealth Youth Senior Officials (African Region) Conference
\nbeing hosted by Ghana.<\/p>\n

President Akufo-Addo described Ms. Scotland
\nas a distinguished professional who had made great achievements and mentioned
\nparticularly her interest in digitisation of countries which resonates with
\nwhat is being done in Ghana today.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that the initiative which
\ndealt with data collection and analysis to help develop policy was a worthwhile
\ninitiative, while touting Ghana\u2019s credentials as a functioning democracy and
\ntransparent society.<\/p>\n

Apart from that, he indicated that the
\ncountry attaches a great deal of importance to these values, saying it is the
\nreason the organisation\u2019s issues about good governance and accountability were
\nwelcomed by Ghana.<\/p>\n

On her part, the Secretary-General
\ncommended the President for the programmes he had initiated especially those
\nbordering on finding solutions to problems affecting the youth.<\/p>\n

With 60 per cent of the country\u2019s
\npopulation under the age of 30 years, she noted that the hosting of the
\nCommonwealth Youth Senior Officials meeting in Ghana was very important because
\none in two people in Africa is between the ages of 15 and 29. She commended the
\nPresident for his support for the Commonwealth and its activities.<\/p>\n

Ms. Scotland discussed with the President
\nabout the need for data collection and analysis, because most developing states
\nhave a paucity of data.<\/p>\n

That, according to her, was what made the
\nCommonwealth to launch its innovation after the Commonwealth heads of government
\nmeeting and engaged in the analysis in relations to trade.<\/p>\n

She said the data gathered and analyzed would help countries to find trade opportunities and facilitation.<\/p>\n
