{"id":736343,"date":"2019-11-02T08:15:06","date_gmt":"2019-11-02T08:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/11\/02\/top-cop-picked-over-coup\/"},"modified":"2019-11-02T08:15:06","modified_gmt":"2019-11-02T08:15:06","slug":"top-cop-picked-over-coup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/11\/02\/top-cop-picked-over-coup\/","title":{"rendered":"Top Cop Picked Over Coup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A<br \/>\ntop police officer has been picked by a joint team of National Security and<br \/>\nBureau of National Investigations (BNI) operatives over his alleged involvement<br \/>\nin plans to destabilise the country and overthrow the New Patriotic Party (NPP)<br \/>\ngovernment.<\/p>\n<p>Although<br \/>\nthe name of the officer is yet to be made public, multiple new sources said the<br \/>\naffected officer could be a Commissioner of Police (COP).<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nreports suggest that the COP has allegedly been in close contact with the<br \/>\nalleged coup plotters who are currently before a court charged with treason.<\/p>\n<p>According<br \/>\nto reports, the senior police officer was designated by the \u2018conspirators\u2019 as<br \/>\nthe one to read out a broadcast to the nation after they have taken over the government.<\/p>\n<p>His<br \/>\nalleged involvement in the plans to take over the powers of the state, the<br \/>\nreports say, was unravelled through a forensic examination of the phones and<br \/>\nother communication gadgets belonging to the leader of the alleged coup<br \/>\nconspirators, Dr. Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, who is the Proprietor of the Citadel<br \/>\nHospital at Alajo.<\/p>\n<p>It<br \/>\nis understood that the COP is not being treated as a suspect yet but has been<br \/>\ninvited to assist in the investigations based on the \u2018intercepted\u2019 message<br \/>\nexchanges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Treason<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nine<br \/>\npersons have been arrested for allegedly planning to attack the Presidency and<br \/>\ndestabilize the country and subsequently charged with treason felony.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nnine who are made up of three civilians and six military officers are being<br \/>\naccused of planning to usurp the executive powers of the state.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequent<br \/>\nto their plans, they are alleged to have hired the services of a local gun<br \/>\nmanufacturer to produce explosives, guns and ammunition<br \/>\nwith which they intended to carry out their plans.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\naccused persons are alleged to be members of a non-governmental organisation \u2013<br \/>\nTake Action Ghana (TAG) \u2013 formed by Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, a medical doctor,<br \/>\nand proprietor of Citadel Hospital at Alajo, Accra.<\/p>\n<p>A<br \/>\ncivilian employee of the Ghana Armed Forces, Gershon Akpa, who is a weapons<br \/>\nmechanic, is alleged to have agreed to sell two guns to the \u2018coup doctor\u2019 at a<br \/>\ncost of GH\u00a27,000. He took GH\u00a22,000 part payment but returned the money later<br \/>\nbecause he could not supply the guns.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Suspects<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\ncivilians who have been accused are Dr. Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, a doctor and<br \/>\nthe alleged mastermind behind the coup plot; Donya Kafui, aka Ezor, a local<br \/>\nweapon manufacturer (blacksmith) from Alavanyo, and Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu,<br \/>\naka BB or ADC.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nmilitary officers caught in the alleged coup plot include a senior officer,<br \/>\nCol. Samuel Kojo Gameli, Lance Corporal Ali Solomon, Lance Corporal Sylvester<br \/>\nAkapewu, Lance Corporal Seidu Abubakar, WO II Esther Saan, aka Mama Gee, of the<br \/>\nMilitary Academy and Training Schools (MATS) and a civilian employee of the<br \/>\nGhana Armed Force, Gershon Akpa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charges<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\nnine accused persons are facing a total of four different charges.
