Kojo Oppong Nkrumah<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cabinet has approved a $200 million facility for the Accra Resilient and Integrated Development Project.<\/p>\n

Four ministries namely Zongo Development, Works and Housing, Sanitation and Water Resources, and Local Government, are spearheading the project.<\/p>\n

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah made this known to journalists on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, while addressing journalists in Accra.<\/p>\n

According to him, the facility would be forwarded to Parliament for approval to enable the funds to be disbursed to the respective ministries.<\/p>\n

He said the Works and Housing Ministry would use its share of the fund to handle drainage of key water outlets including the Odaw river that has been spoken about for many years.<\/p>\n

According to him, the Sanitation Ministry will be responsible for the construction of new transfer stations and a new landfill site in the Greater Accra Region.<\/p>\n

The project is also expected to improve flood risks and solid wastes management along the Odaw Basin, and improved access to basic infrastructure and services in the targeted communities.<\/p>\n

The project is targeted to mitigate the impact of flood risks, thereby enhancing economic and social development.<\/p>\n

Some of the intended outcomes included improved flood risk management, solid waste management, as well as capacity development.<\/p>\n

The indiscriminate dumping of wastes will also be targeted under the project, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSolid waste management which has been a major Sanitation hurdle for Government will also be improved under the project,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

About 500,000 people from low income communities will benefit from the solid waste collection systems under the project, according to him.<\/p>\n
