{"id":732843,"date":"2019-10-28T16:11:53","date_gmt":"2019-10-28T16:11:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/10\/28\/oduman-nsakina-residents-protest-over-bad-roads\/"},"modified":"2019-10-28T16:11:53","modified_gmt":"2019-10-28T16:11:53","slug":"oduman-nsakina-residents-protest-over-bad-roads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/10\/28\/oduman-nsakina-residents-protest-over-bad-roads\/","title":{"rendered":"Oduman -Nsakina Residents Protest Over Bad Roads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>A scene during the protest<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A protest by residents and some commercial drivers, who ply the<br \/>\nOduman-Nsakina road in the Ga West Municipality, over the bad nature of their<br \/>\nroad, left hundreds of commuters in those areas stranded.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\ncommercial drivers parked their vehicles and refused to pick passengers to<br \/>\ntheir various locations, while private car owners were prevented from driving<br \/>\nthrough the road.<\/p>\n<p>As early<br \/>\nas 6am, the protesters had blocked the main Oduma road which leads to Nsakina<br \/>\nand had burnt car tyres at some vantage points<br \/>\nof the road thus preventing other road users from plying the roads.<\/p>\n<p>The recent<br \/>\nprotest was the third time residents in the area had embarked on such an<br \/>\nexercise.<\/p>\n<p>At<br \/>\nthe time <strong><em>DAILY GUIDE<\/em><\/strong> visited the scene around 8am, drivers of commercial<br \/>\nbuses also known as \u2018trotro\u2019 had parked their vehicles and had blocked sections<br \/>\nof the roads linking Ablekuma, Manhean, Oduma, Nsakina and adjoining<br \/>\ncommunities.<\/p>\n<p>According<br \/>\nto a driver, identified as Ali Baba, their decision to embark on the protest<br \/>\nwas as a result of the authorities\u2019 refusal to fix the road.<\/p>\n<p>He<br \/>\nsaid somewhere last year, some drivers and youth of the area protested about<br \/>\nthe bad nature of the roads and were arrested.<\/p>\n<p>He<br \/>\ncontinued that a year ago, they were told after a protest, that the road had<br \/>\nbeen awarded to a contractor; but it has been more than a year and nothing has<br \/>\nhappened.<\/p>\n<p>Another<br \/>\ndriver, told the paper that the road itself was bad and when it rained, drivers<br \/>\nfound it difficult driving through.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead<br \/>\nof 10 munities, we spend more than an hour to drive from Nsakina to Ablekuma due<br \/>\nto the bad nature of the road and this is affecting our work as commercial<br \/>\ndrivers,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Adding,<br \/>\nhe revealed that some of the commercial drivers had refused to move beyond Ablekuma<br \/>\nto work in these areas due to the nature of the road.<\/p>\n<p>The recent<br \/>\nblockade forced some residents of the area to walk long distances to other<br \/>\nlocations to pick vehicles to their workplace.<\/p>\n<p>Around<br \/>\n8:30am, personnel from the Amasaman divisional police command visited the area<br \/>\nto ensure peace in the area.<\/p>\n<p>A police,<br \/>\nwho spoke on condition of anonymity with the paper, said the demonstration was<br \/>\nillegal and blocking the main road was unlawful on their part.<\/p>\n<p>However,<br \/>\nupon seeing two armored cars of the police unit approaching the scene, the<br \/>\ndrivers and demonstrators bolted the scene to avoid arrest.<\/p>\n<p>The police managed to put out the fire and secured the area for commuters to have easy access.<\/p>\n<p> <strong>(lindatenyah@gmail.com) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p> <strong>By Linda Tenyah-Ayettey <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A scene during the protest A protest by residents and some commercial drivers, who ply the Oduman-Nsakina road in the Ga West Municipality, over the bad nature of their road, left hundreds of commuters in those areas stranded.
