Plan International Ghana and
\nMeridian Port Services Limited (MPS) have made donations worth GH\u00a243,000 to the
\nGhana Journalists Association (GJA).<\/p>\n

The donation, which took part at
\nthe International Press Center, on Thursday, October 24, forms part of
\nactivities to support this year\u2019s GJA Awards ceremony slated for November 23.<\/p>\n

Plan International Ghana and
\nMeridian Port Services Limited both presented cheques of GH\u00a218,000 and GH\u00a225,000
\nrespectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In his remarks, Child Protection
\nand Advocacy Specialist at Plan International Ghana, Abubakari Adamu noted that
\nthe organization was aware of the media\u2019s role in making the voice of the
\nvulnerable in the society to be heard and that, the donation was their own way
\nof honouring the best child rights reporter.<\/p>\n

This, he said, would motivate
\nmedia practitioners in the country to focus on child rights and also help protect
\nthe lives of the vulnerable in our societies.<\/p>\n

Mr. Adamu also assured that his
\noutfit was committed to supporting media houses and journalists to tackle the unique
\nchallenges that confront children, particularly girls in communities.<\/p>\n

On his part, the Legal License
\nand Permits Manager for MPS, Frank Ebo Brown commended journalists in the
\ncountry for their immense contributions towards educating the public and
\nproviding information from across the world.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that, being an
\norganization that shares same vision with the GJA, the donation is a way of supporting
\nthe awards scheme and also to cement the relationship between both organizations.<\/p>\n

Receiving the donation, President
\nof the GJA, Dr. Affail Monney, expressed the association\u2019s appreciation to both
\ninstitutions for the kind gesture; assuring that it would go a long way to
\nensure the success of the awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the awards was
\nthe pinnacle of achievements any journalist in the country could acquire.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce you win, you are at the
\ncentre of national and international focus. The quantum of cash which goes with
\nit might be small but the exposure is big and the honor is immeasurable,\u201d he
\naverred.<\/p>\n

He therefore encouraged journalists to give more prominence to the awards and urged other corporate bodies to support the occasion to make it successful.<\/p>\n
