{"id":730432,"date":"2019-10-24T13:55:31","date_gmt":"2019-10-24T13:55:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/10\/24\/tewu-threatens-demo-over-technical-varsities-staff-migration\/"},"modified":"2019-10-24T13:55:31","modified_gmt":"2019-10-24T13:55:31","slug":"tewu-threatens-demo-over-technical-varsities-staff-migration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/10\/24\/tewu-threatens-demo-over-technical-varsities-staff-migration\/","title":{"rendered":"TEWU Threatens Demo Over Technical Varsities Staff Migration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress, has raised concerns about Government\u2019s \u2018disregard\u2019 for it (TEWU)<br \/>in the discussions and implementation process of migrating staff of Technical Universities.<\/p>\n<p>According to TEWU, \u201cit is sad to note that TEWU, as a major stakeholder has been completely left out in the negotiation of the migration process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It made this known in a press statement, threatening to join staff of Technical Universities in their planned strike action.<\/p>\n<p>TEWU noted that \u201cas it stands, members of TEWU do not know their placements in terms of the migration though we took part in the staff Audit conducted by National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It said \u201cMembers of TEWU in the Technical Universities solidarized with the other Associations in the Technical Universities who have embarked on strike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It added that \u201cwe wish to state that we will not hesitate to join them soon in the strike because we are in the struggle together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Union, the statement observed, was also not happy about the continuous delay on the part of government in releasing the second tier contribution of Technical Universities Staff from January, 2010 to April, 2019.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom 1st January, 2020, our members who will be retiring stand the danger of going home with nothing as lump sum payment after many years of sacrifices for the nation\u2019s starring us in our face,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>It added that the Board of Trustees of the Ghana Polytechnic Workers\u2019 Pension Scheme has made several follow-ups to get the contributions to the Fund Manager to invest towards members pension but to no avail.<\/p>\n<p>The Teachers and Educational Workers\u2019 Union (TEWU) of TUC (Ghana) has therefore resolved that, if by Tuesday, 31st October, 2019 these issues are not resolved, we would have no option but to embark on an indefinite strike action until the above issues are resolved, it noted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BY Melvin Tarlue<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress, has raised concerns about Government\u2019s \u2018disregard\u2019 for it (TEWU)in the discussions and implementation process of migrating staff of Technical Universities.
