Tension is brewing between the tenants of Ghana\u2019s foremost shop\u00adping destination, Accra Mall, and the management of the facility due to security reasons.<\/p>\n

According to tenants at the mall, sales have dropped, following another ceiling collapsing at the popular retail centre. <\/p>\n

The angry traders have therefore resolved to temporarily close their shops on Thursday, October 24, 2019.<\/p>\n

Below is the full statement <\/strong><\/p>\n

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF ACCRA MALL BY THE ACCRA MALL TENANTS ASSOCIATION<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Accra Mall Tenants
\nAssociation have taken the decision to temporarily close their shops on the 24th<\/sup>
\nof October, 2019.<\/p>\n

This decision has been
\ntaken to bring to the fore the onerous conditions under which they operate at
\nthe mall.<\/p>\n

The public would
\nrecall that about a year ago, part of the ceiling in the mall collapsed and
\nthis affected patronage at the mall as the public were rightly concerned about
\ntheir safety. <\/p>\n

Before that section of
\nthe ceiling could be fixed, another section of the ceilingat the Game entrance
\nalso caved in after a heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n

Both incidents hugely
\naffected patronage at the Mall which in turn led to a downward spiral of
\nrevenue of the Tenants.<\/p>\n

Despite numerous
\nprotests and engagements with the management of the mall, nothing was done to
\nfix the ceiling until about a month ago when they began to fix the ceiling.<\/p>\n

In order to fix the
\nceiling, the management of the mall have erected scaffolding in the walkways of
\nthe whole mall despite protestations from the tenants that this would rather
\nscare customers away. <\/p>\n

The tenants proposed
\nthat the scaffolds be erected at the sections where work was being done and
\nthen moved to other sections of the ceiling rather than erecting the scaffolds
\nall over the walkway of the mall.<\/p>\n

The management of the
\nmall however ignored the tenants concerns and persisted with erecting the
\nscaffolds with the result being that patronage to the mall has worsened leaving
\nthe tenants in a worse position.<\/p>\n

In addition to the
\nabove, the tenants also raised concerns about the exorbitant rent and the lack of
\npromotional activities by management of the mall to improve revenue which
\nslumped due to their negligence in maintaining the mall leading to the collapse
\nof the ceiling.<\/p>\n

In order to address
\nthese concerns representatives of tenants met with representatives of the Accra
\nMall landlords on or about the 26th<\/sup> of September, 2019 to address
\nissues of common interest. Among issues discussed at the said meeting included:<\/p>\n
