{"id":726955,"date":"2019-10-19T14:15:04","date_gmt":"2019-10-19T14:15:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/10\/19\/33-armoured-vehicles-for-the-military\/"},"modified":"2019-10-19T14:15:04","modified_gmt":"2019-10-19T14:15:04","slug":"33-armoured-vehicles-for-the-military","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/10\/19\/33-armoured-vehicles-for-the-military\/","title":{"rendered":"33 Armoured Vehicles For The Military"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>President Akufo-Addo responding to cheers from family members of the graduating officers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Government has<br \/>\nprocured and presented 33 new armoured vehicles to the Ghana Armed Forces<br \/>\n(GAF).<\/p>\n<p>President Akufo-Addo,<br \/>\nwho made the disclosure yesterday, said \u201cthis is part of<br \/>\nefforts to retool the Armed Forces to enable them to fight terrorist threat and<br \/>\nprotect the territorial integrity of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He made the remarks<br \/>\nduring the commissioning of 132 officers into the Armed Forces at a colourful<br \/>\nceremony held at the parade ground of the Ghana Military Academy at Teshie in<br \/>\nAccra. <\/p>\n<p>He promised to continuously provide the military with the necessary resources so they can perform their traditional roles. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/military-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-249816\"  \/><figcaption><strong>President Akufo-Addo presenting the All Round Best Officer cardet in<br \/>the Military Career in Regular Career to Senior Under Officer (SUO)<br \/>to Bernard Nketia at the ceremon<\/strong>y<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As Commander-in-Chief<br \/>\nof the Armed Forces, he charged the graduating officers to strive to keep the<br \/>\nname and image of the Ghana Armed Forces in high esteem.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cGhana occupies<br \/>\na very respectable and envious position on the world stage and it is regarded<br \/>\nas the beacon of stability on the continent as well as enjoying the pride of<br \/>\nplace in the area of peacekeeping.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are, thus, to<br \/>\nguard yourselves against acts that are likely to bring the name of our beloved<br \/>\ncountry and the image of the Ghana Armed Forces into disrepute,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour actions should<br \/>\nbe to enhance or at the very least maintain the standards set by predecessor<br \/>\ngenerations of officers of the Armed Forces,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n<p>He cautioned the newly<br \/>\ncommissioned officers to be mindful of the fact that their military uniforms<br \/>\nwere not meant to intimidate civilians but for their protection and for<br \/>\nsecuring the territorial integrity of the nation.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the<br \/>\nday, Barnette Nketiah was adjudged the best all-round officer Cadet of regular<br \/>\ncareer course 59. He was given the sword of honour, while the Chief of the Air<br \/>\nStaff award went to CSM Buerno, with the Chief of the Naval Staff award<br \/>\n(Sextant award) going to JUO Sarpong. <\/p>\n<p>The Chief of Army<br \/>\nStaff award went to SUO Nketiah, while the Chief of Defence Staff award was<br \/>\npicked by JUO Abuyah. <\/p>\n<p>The Ghana Military<br \/>\nAcademy is one of the training schools under the Military Academy and Training<br \/>\nSchools (MATS) as a unit. It is solely responsible for the training of officers<br \/>\nfor commissioning into the Ghana Armed Forces services \u2013 Ghana Army, Ghana Navy<br \/>\nand the Ghana Air Force. <\/p>\n<p>Entrance to the<br \/>\nacademy is by examination, and the curriculum includes military and general<br \/>\nsubjects. Duration of the course for army cadets is two years.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the<br \/>\nfirst six months, a few candidates may be selected to finish their studies at<br \/>\nforeign institutions such as the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst in<br \/>\nBritain. <\/p>\n<p>The Ghana Military<br \/>\nAcademy was established in 1960 as the Regular Officers\u2019 Training School which<br \/>\ntrained both Ghanaian and Nigerian officer cadets who furthered their training<br \/>\nat Sandhurst.<\/p>\n<p>While some cadets<br \/>\npass out as regular officers, others do so as short service commissioned<br \/>\nofficers for careers in the various departments of the military such as<br \/>\nengineering, medical, nursing and others. <\/p>\n<p>Armoured cars are used by the RECCE Regiment \u2014 the No 1 Recce at Burma Camp in Accra and No 2 in Sunyani.<\/p>\n<p><strong> By Charles Takyi-Boadu, Presidential Correspondent<\/strong> <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Akufo-Addo responding to cheers from family members of the graduating officers.
