{"id":726851,"date":"2019-10-19T11:58:18","date_gmt":"2019-10-19T11:58:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/10\/19\/audio-guta-calls-for-boycott-of-nigerian-products\/"},"modified":"2019-10-19T11:58:18","modified_gmt":"2019-10-19T11:58:18","slug":"audio-guta-calls-for-boycott-of-nigerian-products","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/10\/19\/audio-guta-calls-for-boycott-of-nigerian-products\/","title":{"rendered":"Audio: GUTA calls for boycott of Nigerian products"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-io-article-url=\"https:\/\/www.adomonline.com\/audio-guta-calls-for-boycott-of-nigerian-products\/\">\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"439\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Guta-1.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Guta\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">GUTA has been told to seek redress in court<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/clip.afrad.io\/?clipId=Z5xBMrjScLuJjBMBF\" width=\"100%\" height=\"260px\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n<p>The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) is calling for a total boycott of all Nigerian products imported to Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>The move, the traders union believes, will force the Nigerian government to open up its borders for foreign goods.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: Nigeria has taught Ghana how to defy ECOWAS protocols \u2013 GUTA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian government in its Prohibited and Restricted Imports list banned the importation of some 43 products including rice, cement, textile products, cocoa butter and other products it currently manufactures.<\/p>\n<p>Nigerian<br \/>\nPresident, Mahamudu Buhari in August 2019 ordered a partial closure of the<br \/>\nTogo-Benin border to check the smuggling of cheap goods into Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Following that directive, Nigeria\u2019s borders were completely shut down in September 2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: Richest men \u2018killing\u2019 poverty in Ghana<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Reacting to this, the Greater Accra Regional Secretary of GUTA, David Kwadwo Amoateng on Adom FM\u2019s morning show, <strong>Dwaso Nsem<\/strong>, Friday said the Nigerian government has not been fair to foreign traders.<\/p>\n<p>In return, he expects the Ghana government to prevent Nigerian traders from importing goods into Ghana but that plea has fallen on deaf ears.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEither somebody\u2019s bread has been buttered or we are cowards. Government is not being fair to us,\u201d he fumed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: Read funny social media reaction to arrest of 77-year-old \u2018ganja farmer\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr Amoateng cited how Dangote cement had taken over the market while local ones from GHACEM are suffering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s boycott Nigerian products as payback to their government\u2019s action.
