\nCorp (NABCO) scheme have exited the programme over the past year with majority
\nbeing retained at their placement centres within the public sector. <\/p>\n
Others have also exited the programme to set
\nthemselves up as entrepreneurs in various sectors, while the rest have left the
\nprogramme for career focused learning. \u00a0<\/p>\n
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NABCO, Dr
\nAnyars Ibrahim, gave the information when he addressed Journalists at a press
\nbriefing in Accra \u2013 to outline activities for the first anniversary celebration
\nof the organisation. <\/p>\n
\u201cIf you look at the recent recruitment at the
\nGhana Education Service, a chunk of those under Educate Ghana got placed. If you
\nalso look at the Ministry Of Food And Agriculture recruitment for extension
\nofficers, we had a lot of our trainees gaining employment\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
It is expected that the President of Ghana, Nana
\nAkufo-Addo, will on Thursday October 17, 2019 mark the first anniversary of the
\nprogramme with the launch of a learning platform for trainees called the NABCO
\nSkills and Talent Academy (NSTA) pathways.<\/p>\n
The mandatory programme, which will be a
\nrequirement for exit certification of trainees, is to be executed in partnership
\nwith the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in Information Communication
\nand Technology (ICT). <\/p>\n
It formed part of the learning component of the
\nNABCO programme that sought to provide trainees with additional skills in ICT
\nafter securing job placements.<\/p>\n
Dr Ibrahim explained that the NSTA pathway which
\nhas a total of 60 courses would comprise of two levels; where 70 per cent of
\nthe learning at one level would be done virtually and 30 per cent at another
\nlevel would be carried out via one on one session.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is in recognition of communities that are
\nhaving difficulty in accessing content due to variations in internet provision.
\nWe have designated learning centres which are physical spaces in all the
\nregions\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Director General of the ICT centre, Kwasi
\nAdu-Gyan, said that the lack of capacity to execute jobs among graduates has
\nmade it compelling for the institute to partner NABCO in bridging the demand
\ngap for qualified workforce between academia and industry.<\/p>\n
In a related development, the Greater Accra Regional
\nBranch of NABCO held a durbar on Monday, to mark the one year anniversary of
\nthe programme.<\/p>\n
The event was attended by some members of Parliament,
\nMunicipal Chief Executives, and representatives from National Service Scheme,
\namong others.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n
Also present was the Mayor of Accra, Mohammed
\nAdjei Sowah, who urged trainees to work at improving their work ethics so as to
\ncontribute efficiently to nation building.<\/p>\n
\u201cProductivity must be measured not only in accordance with input of how much stipend you are given at the end of the month; but how much knowledge you have acquired and the attitude that you have changed\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
