President Akufo-Addo interacting with the leader of the Paga delegation<\/strong><\/p>\nThe chiefs and people
\nof the Paga Traditional Area in the Upper East Region have expressed profound
\ngratitude to President Akufo-Addo for the befitting burial he
\ngave their late kinsman, Clement Kubindiwo (C. K.) Tedam.<\/p>\n
Until his death on
\nApril 26 this year, C. K. Tedam was Chairman of the Council of Elders of the
\nruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).<\/p>\n
He was not only held
\nin high esteem in the party but was also considered an icon of the Busia,
\nDombo, Danquah political tradition and a founding member of what later
\nmetamorphosed into the NPP.<\/p>\n
He first won election
\nto Parliament as an independent candidate in 1954 and won another in 1956 on
\nthe ticket of the Northern People\u2019s Party (NPP).<\/p>\n
But the funeral and
\nstate burial given their late kinsman is what has caught the hearts and minds
\nof his people to thank the President and the government and people of Ghana for
\nthe honour done them.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thank you very
\nmuch for the opportunity, and we are sincerely grateful to Your Excellency for
\nthe honour done Hon. C. K. Tedam and us in every step before and during his
\nfuneral,\u201d the Spokesman for the chiefs and people of Paga, Professor Albert
\nLuguterah, said when they called on President Akufo-Addo at the Presidency on
\nTuesday.<\/p>\n
Like the fictional
\nOliver Twist, they demanded more \u00a0\u00a0developmental projects in Paga which is in the
\nKassena Nankana West District, especially the projects that were being pursued
\nby the late C. K. Tedam before his death.<\/p>\n
They appealed for the
\nconversion of the health centre in Paga into a district hospital to reflect its
\nstatus as a district; the conversion of the Paga Senior High School into a
\nboarding school to help students from the eastern and western areas of the district
\nto accept placement in the school; and the construction of link roads from the
\ndistrict centre in Paga to aid access to the eastern and western areas of the district.<\/p>\n
On his part,
\nPresident Akufo-Addo eulogized the late C. K. Tedam as true son of the Upper
\nEast Region, who had the development of the region at heart.<\/p>\n
He, therefore,
\nassured the Chief of Paga, Pe Charles Awampaga, and his people that all the
\nprojects and concerns they had presented to him would receive his urgent consideration
\nand attention.<\/p>\n
He was equally elated
\nabout the fact that Parliament had passed the Act for the naming of the
\nNavrongo campus of the University of Development Studies (UDS) after C. K.
\nTedam.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Paga Traditional Council has allocated 200 acres of land for building some of the new faculties of the university, with an assurance to release more lands when the need arises.<\/p>\n
