{"id":724570,"date":"2019-10-16T13:38:59","date_gmt":"2019-10-16T13:38:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2019\/10\/16\/gja-president-encourages-specialisation\/"},"modified":"2019-10-16T13:38:59","modified_gmt":"2019-10-16T13:38:59","slug":"gja-president-encourages-specialisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2019\/10\/16\/gja-president-encourages-specialisation\/","title":{"rendered":"GJA President Encourages Specialisation &#8211;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Mr Azumah presents a dummy cheque to the vice president of the GJA association, Asante-Agyei<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The President of the Ghana Journalist Association<br \/>\n(GJA), Affail Monney, has urged journalists to channel their energies at<br \/>\nspecific subject areas of their profession by way of specialisation in order to<br \/>\nhelp address the complexities and rapidity of happenings and issues that tend<br \/>\nto stale the growth of the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe jack of trades syndrome and the all-knowing<br \/>\npretensions of journalists should give way to specialisation. I am a journalist<br \/>\nand I will be the first to admit that journalist do not know it all. Our only<br \/>\nadvantage is that we have unfettered access to the microphone and the print\u201d he<br \/>\nsaid.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>In the face of challenges that make most media<br \/>\nhouses to encourage journalist to specialise, he emphasised the importance of<br \/>\nspecialisation by describing it as one vehicle that could lead to a destination<br \/>\nof improved quality in media output, where journalists could report on issues<br \/>\nauthoritatively. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will help them to analyse issues objectively<br \/>\nand not from the lens of politicians or people who want to be heard\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Mr Monney appealed to media houses to<br \/>\nspecifically commit more resources to finance and economic reporting in order<br \/>\nto help the country accelerate its growth in all dimensions. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMedia has gotten us to where we are in democracy.<br \/>\nIt has however been established that any democracy without a strong economic<br \/>\nunderpinning is weak\u201d Mr Monney said\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>He made the remark when he expressed appreciation<br \/>\non behalf of the association to the Consolidated Bank of Ghana (CBG) limited<br \/>\nand Newmont Goldcorp Ghana, for their contribution of GH\u20b525,000 and GH\u20b520,000<br \/>\nrespectively to the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), for the upcoming 24th<br \/>\nGJA awards which coincides with the 70th Anniversary celebration of the<br \/>\nassociation.<\/p>\n<p>CBG is supporting the business, finance and<br \/>\neconomic reporter category while Newmont is supporting the environmental category<br \/>\nof the awards scheme which is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Presentations from representatives of both<br \/>\ninstitutions were separately made to executives of the GJA in Accra on Thursday,<br \/>\nOctober 10 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The General Manager of CBG in Charge of Global<br \/>\nmarkets, John Zigah who led a three man delegation expressed the commitment of<br \/>\nthe bank to promote democracy by associating itself with institutions that tend<br \/>\nto propagate the tenets of democracy which included freedom of expression.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of Communications at Newmont Ghana,<br \/>\nAgbeko Azumah for his part said the gesture was in line with longstanding<br \/>\nrelationship between the two entities which has led to members of GJA<br \/>\nbenefiting from training programmes and other form of assistance to the<br \/>\nassociation in the two regions of Bono Ahafo and Eastern.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By Issah Mohammed <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Azumah presents a dummy cheque to the vice president of the GJA association, Asante-Agyei The President of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), Affail Monney, has urged journalists to channel their energies at specific subject areas of their profession by way of specialisation in order to help address the complexities and rapidity of happenings and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":724571,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-724570","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-politics"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.8 -
