\nto bring out the best in them. <\/p>\n
According
\nto Yvonne Amankwah, CEO of Vons Brand Ltd, her vision of empowering women with
\ndisabilities to prove to the world that they were special was hinged on the
\nfact that \u201cthey are not a
\nburden on society, and if we can make a collective effort to help these women
\nfind work, it will help the community and the nation as a whole.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cIn Ghana, people are using a lot of
\nchemicals on their bodies that damage the skin. We chose instead to use natural
\ningredients like shea butter, which doesn\u2019t have any impurities,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Ms. Amankwah noted that she trains women
\nwith disabilities to bring out their creative skills and help to refine these
\ntowards economic empowerment.<\/p>\n
\u201cI noticed years ago that a lot of women
\nat Kaneshie where I live had disabilities. And I noticed that the majority were
\nunemployable. I wanted to find a way to help them earn a living, somehow,\u201d she
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Now a 2019 Mandela Washington Fellow, Yvonne said she was still learning from others while she continued to teach others across Ghana.<\/p>\n
